I've got a '13 with 5.7. I've noticed a couple of times when I parked it I smelled oil burning. I've looked everywhere I can think to look and don't see anything or even any smoke. It's intermittent but when it's there the smell is strong. Has anyone else experienced this and if so did you find the problem?
Might search cam tower leak on here. I've seen several pics others have posted where theirs were leaking. If you look inside the front fender wells and look along the head. I think they usually leak near the rear.
It probably is the cam tower leak like g0sammo said. It may be covered under warranty. Not sure I would want them taking things apart unless it is leaking a lot. You could always add some Marvel Mystery Oil so when it does leak you have a nice wintergreen scent.
Check out the exhaust heat shield. Here's a photo of the Cam Tower leak that left oil on my exhaust heat shield: Message - Toyota Tundra Photo Gallery
Bring you truck to a reputable dealer and have them check it out. If it is the Cam Tower leak, contact Toyota and let them now. Then firmly ask Toyota, not the dealer, for an extended Platinum Warranty (extended warranty cover to 7 YR/ 100K). Toyota will pay for the rental too.
Well to follow up on this thread I took the truck in for service today at just under 23k miles and told them about the burnt oil smell. After inspection they informed me that the leak is on the timing gear cover and they have me in a rental for 5 days so they can do the repairs. I hope they're right.
Just curious.........when you got your truck back do you think that it was your truck with all the interior/exterior parts you purchased with it? Now really do you know for sure that those were your interior/exterior parts? Got my truck back from a dealership and all the interior parts were replaced with inferior parts (smelly, nicotine stained). I called the service department and they told me to take it in and they would detail the truck. My interior was spotless when I took it in. Then I noticed that when I looked down the side of my truck it didn't flow. My truck bed is smaller than when I took in? Magical? Not sure..........still fighting this one!! I KNOW THEY STOLE MY TRUCK!! Be careful.......they are taking it!!!!!
Does your insurance card not have your VIN on it. Mine does so if this was to ever happen to me it would be simple checking the VIN. Or I know that my dealer still has me in the system with the exact VIN of my truck. I don't see how this is such a problem.
No it is not a joke.........my truck was (I guess) stolen. The truck that I got back is not mine. I know my vehicle and I know my vehicle very well because I am the only one who takes care of it. Really just want to give everyone a heads up that this is really happening. Believe it or not...........hope it don't happen to you. Five days is a long time to be without your vehicle. Look at the underneath of vehicles driving down the road around you, look at the frames of trucks in the parking lot when you walk past. Rust, rust, rust just seems a little abnormal to me. Just sayin..........I'm not a troll! I have a meeting tomorrow at the dealership and will let you know the outcome. However I do not feel that this is going to be resolved in one meeting. But I will go to the CEO of toyota in Westlake and sit outside his house until this is resolved. I am aggressively persuing this matter until my legs fall off.
Well I did as 2011TundraInMe recommended and contacted ToyotaCare with my reliability concern going forward due to this and an earlier transmission issue. They are giving me an 8 year / 125k mile 0 deductible platinum warranty! I now have no concerns about keeping this truck. Thank you Toyota and 2011TundraInMe!
