08 Tundra going dead in less than 24 hours......

Hello. I am looking for some serious help. Sorry the info may be long, but I want you to know exactly history and problem that has been going on for almost 4 years.

I have a 2008 tundra CM. Bought it brand new. 3 months after buying I had installed aftermarket stereo. Done professionally. Nothing crazy: head unit, 2 amps, and subs. Door speakers too.

About 2 years after install i got a dead battery. No big deal. I live in Florida, truck is always outside. Replaced battery, everything was fine again.

Well, for last 3.5-4 years I replace a battery every few months. year at most. Jumps instantly by just touching jumpers to battery. But according to battery shop, batter is fine, just needed a little charge

I have had AAA out to me a dozen times. Had it at there shop. Had it to my local truck customizing shop 3-4 times with this issue. Toyot twice and they are worthless. They open my doo see the aftermarket stereo and say that is problem.

I have had numerous mechanics do draw tests and nothing out of ordinary for draws. I had stereo completely ripped out 3 months ago, and reinstalled by a different stereo shop (they do high end stuff). 3 months later and I have dead battery in morning.

All people say it must be something internally deep inside. I have no clue!!!!!

I am a firefighter and work 24 hour shifts. Now when I go to leave work my truck is dead everytime. AAA says battery is fine but has electrical problem somewhere. No draws out of the ordinary.

Can anyone help or have suggestions???? I am so fed up!!!

Thanks and sorry for lengthy problem

Do u no how many amps your alternator is? Cause it seems like something isn't recharging ur battery, it could b a small alt, short & even not driving enough to recharge tha bat. Low end amps on the alts in these truck r 100amps, high end r 150a I think even 170a now.

The audio guy tested all equipment plugged in and unplugged. No real change in draw of power. Nothing unusual.

I have also had a relay switch installed to make sure all power shuts off.

I checked tonight. When I shut off truck or the head unit, all amps are off. No power lights are on

Audio guy said he thinks it is deeper in truck.

BTW, this problem is intermittent. One morning truck is dead. Then could have 3,5, 10 days normal. Then day 11 is dead. I drive same distance everyday.

Does this additional info help? Any suggestions?

Relays not for the radio, but the truck itself. Put you hand on them after it sits several hours - find the one that warm or hot - bingo stuck relay.

Look under hood

Where can I look to find those relays to see if they are warm or hot? Are the in fuse box? Or located somewhere else?

Update on situation:

So I drove to work yesterday. It is about a 30-40 minute ride on highway.

I felt relays about 2-3 hours after drive and truck cooled. None of the relays were warm or hot. I also shut off and made sure all things were off: AC, lights, stereo etc...

12 hours later from time of arrival at work I started truck. It started up fine. I let it run for 15 min or so.

Another 12 hours later, in the morning, I started truck again. No issue. Started up.

Then one hour from that when I was going to leave work, the truck would not start. Just the clicking.

I turned radio off when I got to work. All amp power was off too. No power lights on

When truck started up in morning the radio turned on by itself. I did not turn on radio on manually like I did when I shut it off

Anyone with ideas. Tried everything you guys suggested so far but no luck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It doesn't seem likely it is the audio system unless it has a short. Even if it were to stay on with the truck off, it shouldn't drain the battery in an hour.

I would still completely disconnect it. Try that for some time and see if the problem continues. It there is an intermittent short in the audio system, it might not show up during a quick test.

I would still guess it is something else, charging or maybe the PATS system...??

It would also be interesting to know the voltages involved in each situation.

My usual driving is mainly city and is usually 20 minute intervals before turning on and off truck

When I drive to the fire department( every 4th) day, it is a 40 minute ride but my truck then sits for 24 hours.

Still trying to find alternator size. Will call toyota today at some point. Will update
