5.7 starter replacement suggestions

Any suggestions on removing/replacing the starter on a 5.7 Tundra? The factory procedure is quite involved and I was wondering if there are any shortcuts that anyone has found?

I did post a short procedure I found to keep the starter working till it can be replaced if you find yourself facing the dreaded click. It's in the DIY section.

I have never seen a 5.7 starter go bad in the 4 years i've been a tech at toyota. I have done plenty if trans on a 5.7 and the starter is a nightmare. It says you have to remove the exhaust manifold but it you can remove the heat shield on the starter first then it will come out. Its like a puzzle, Id pay someone to do it.

I posted a DIY starter removal/replacement. Exhaust manifold did have to come off. All the things Toyota says to remove from the front of the motor can be left alone though. Job took me about 7 hours start to finish, I could do it in 4 now. But it's a lot of work and as these trucks get older more starters will have solenoid issues.

Starter i can do in 30 minutes to remove and a little longer to install cause the heat shield is a nightmare.
