RUST... New thread.

Gentlemen,

Here is a new rust thread. Feel free to discuss rust to your hearts content. Talk about rust, take pictures of rust, video tape rust for all i care. Just be considerate of your neighbor and think before you post.

I appologize for killing the original thread, but it was to much to go thru and pick and choose what to leave/take out. Please repost whatever you have pertaining to the subject.

Get to discussing the rust issue.

Aloha,

Hawaii 5.7

I had all the lug nuts replaced due to rusting by the dealer and the rear bumper had rust on it too. For comparison, my 2006 RAV4 has no rust issues whatsoever.

But its the undercarriage I'm mostly concerned with. For me, this is the main issue that will determine if I keep this truck when the lease expires in April 2010.

Here's my Tundra after one winter:

One of my bed bolts is rusting. I don't understand why only one of them is rusting. Not a big issue, just wanted to put my two cents in.

What was their excuse for that? That looks bad to me. Way too much.

Maybe the bolt got scratched when they did your bed liner .
Not for sure , but I think they are zinc plated , if the surface gets dinged or scratched it will rust over time .

Sounds about right....I polished mine with a drill and that red ball you get at the auto parts.

Damn that seems very excessive to me. Wow. Was it parked in the ocean for a little while?

I hope they'll make good on that.

To be honest, I haven't spoken to the dealer yet about the undercarriage rust. It has been in for regular service so I know they've seen it. I will bring it up at my next visit.

I live near Toronto, Canada, and they do indeed use salt and also that liquid melter on the roads here in the winter. No doubt its hard on vehicles. However, I've been looking at other pickups on the road and I haven't seen this kind of rust, except on much older vehicles.

I'm not going crazy over this since its a lease and I will simply hand them back the keys if it turns into a rust bucket.

Man that does look like way more rust than there should be even in those conditions. Let us know what the dealer says next time in.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm due for an oil change soon, so I'll see about getting a new one. I'll worry about that after I see what hurricane Gustav is gonna do.
