Warning do not bottom out rear bumper or else!

I was up camping and had to cross a couple of streams going across the road i was on. I heard the rear scrape on one of the crossings and didn't think much of it till I got back home when i realized my trailer hookup for towing was bent and the plastic was broke. I went to the dealer to see If I could replace the broken plastic piece only to be told I had to buy the whole section with the wiring which was going to cost $183.00. The dealer sold me a $10.00 universal steel one and told me to just take one of the license plate bulbs out of the bumper and put the universal plug in the whole. I did that now I lost my right rear signal and stop lamp! Frustrated.

ouch....I try to avoid bottoming out. I have only really done it once. I was in a parking lot and was doing a turn around and didn't see that there was a drop off for a truck loading bad. My right tire went over an edge and put a huge dent in my running board. It sounded as bad as it was. Not cool

When I bought my truck I noticed that the trailer wiring plug was mounted in a stupid exsposed spot. Haven't smashed mine yet but I am sure it's going to happen one of these days. Needs a metal housing around it or it needs to be mounted thru the bumper.

I did the same thing crossing a stream. Going up the bank on the other side, scrape! Figured that my tow hitch would be the first thing to hit. Nope. Bent the metal bracket that holds the towing connections. The 4plug is okay. Broke the cover off of the 6plug. I just left the bracket bent, and use a plastic clip to hold the round plug assembly in place. $183 -- same price I got -- no way, cause I'm gonna do it again some time!

The dealer can sell you a universal cheap chrome looking metal adapter for about 10 bucks that you can rewire and install in the driver's side license plate light. It looked cheesy to me so I just ordered the new plastic assembly and bent the metal brackets into place. I noticed that when I installed the universal metal plug in that a lot of dirt and grime got in there so I figured it best to just take the hit in the wallet and order the oem stuff. I just got to learn not to be offroading this truck like my other trucks, it is just to low without a lift.
