Clunking from rear

When I am stopped at a light and suddenly accelerate. Not drag racing, just pedal down about 30%, I hear and feel a clunk that seems to be coming from the rear. Anyone else have this problem or know anything?

I get that too. It feels like play in the rear axel. Or as if the spair is loose and swinging wild under the truck. But I cannot recreate this, it just happens at random.

I do remember my 02 Camry did it too. And just as often, about once or twice each time I drive it, all at random. Also whats odd, is on the Camry, it also felt as it came from the rear

My truck does the exact same thing when taking off and only very randomly. Also my truck has a popping noise coming from the rear when I back out of my drive onto the road. There is a step down and the axle has to twist at an angle and it will always do it. The dealer was able to duplicate it both times I took it too them over it, but can not figure out what the issue is. If anyone has been through this please let me know the fix.

I can't figure out for the life of me what the clunking is but it is very annoying. I hope it's not the u-joints because the trunk only has 1200 miles on it. It feels exactly like the spare is swinging around but I tied it down extra tight. I am going to take it to the dealer next week and see if they can fix the problem.

My wife had a Tahoe and it started making a clunk like what you are describing. The clunk was heard and felt when you first start to accelerate from a dead stop. Then it was heard again when you come to a stop when the wieght of the vehicle kinda shifts rearward. Know what I mean? What fixed the problem on our Tahoe was to pack the inside of the drive shaft yoke with a high pressure lithium grease. That got rid of the clunk. At first I could not figure out where the clunk was coming from and I swore it was coming from the rear differential, but as it turned out it was the drive shaft.

I dont know if this is the problem with the Tundra, it's just a suggestion.

Check you rear u-joint. It connects to your differential. More than likely thats what it is. And honestly a cheap fix. Probably a $25.00 ujoint. But the good news is , Is that it's warrantied, or should be !!! Good luck

I hope that's the problem. I am going to make use of my warranty and hopefully they can figure out the problem. I thought the 4x4s had the problems, that's why I bought a 4x2 haha.

Get back to us and let us know what it ends up being. 2wd or 4wd both have driveshafts so it doesnt make a difference on that .

I know. I remember reading that there was a recall on the early 4x4s though.

There has been a technical service bulletin issued for this. They replace the drive shaft and the propeller. Mine was replaced last week but it didn't fix it.

I had the same problem and to it in yesterday. The feeling was that there was slack in the drive train. Lucky the dealer found a service bulletin TBS 0015-08 which requires the replacement of the drive line. I should have it in next week and will let everyone know the outcome.

Pack some high pressure grease in the yoke. Ask Toyota about that when you take it in.
