Unhappy rusting front and rear bumpers

I Have A 2007 Tundra Bought In Oct. 2007, Last Week Notice Rust On Inside Bumpers, dealer Look At It Called Toyota , Toyota Said It's Normal Because The Steel Is Not Treated And Steel Rusts, Not Cover Under Warranty , They Only Said They Will Fix It If Other Tundras Owners Complains. Gmc Has A Protective Coating On Theres, Toyota Will Do The Same If Everone Comes Forward Complains In The Northeast Reg. Please If You Have This Problems Contact Dealers So We All Can Have A Fix.

1. Uh - what?

2. What's with the funky capitalization.

3. I don't think Toyota's warrantee depends on a grass roots complaint effort

4. This has all the hallmarks of a troll that is trying not to appear a troll.

5. I will appoligize if this is legit.

6. Uh - what?

Yeah, the bumpers do rust. My dealer told me that Toyota is now coating the backside of the bumpers with something to prevent it. I plan on getting my rear bumper replaced. I already had rusty lug nuts replaced earlier this year.

There's also a lot of rust in general under the truck. The rear differential "pumpkin", the point where the spring packs attach to the axle, various brackets and fasteners etc.

I looked under my 06 RAV4 which is driven on the same roads and is 1 year older than my Tundra and it hardly has any rust at all. No rusty lug nuts either.

So, from my observation, there is something different with the Tundra in how it is protected against rust compared to my RAV.

Seadragon , the rav4 is a Unibody design and has no frame like the Tundra . As you correctly said , they are different and steel will rust over time , especially the the springs on all vehicles . The unibody is dipped in a solution to help prevent rusting .

The early rust problems were caused by improper chrome plating and has since been corrected .

Ah, interesting Ramoine. I never thought of the unibody vs body on frame design and the dipping of unibody. That would explain a lot. The dealer has left it up to me as to when I want the bumper swapped. I guess I can go ahead anytime since, as you point out, Toyota has corrected this issue.

Is it a good idea to get the Tundra undercoated with something perhaps? If so, what would be a good method? I remember years ago that people used to get the underbody oiled before winter. Not sure if that's still done or not. I live in near Toronto, Canada and they use that liquid ice melter on the roads here in winter, as well as the usual sand and salt. It wreaks havoc on vehicles!

I'm pretty sure Mickey bought some undercoating and sprayed his truck . Maybe you can pm him and ask what he used ?
