Unhappy 608 miles & broken

I took my new Tundra DC camping this weekend and after I set up camp I'm driving down the road and the check engine light comes on, 2 seconds later it stops running and I have to guide it to a stop on the side of the road. Truck will not fire, starter cranks away but seems like no gas is making it to the engine. I'm still in disbelief that the Tundra broke down with 608 miles on it!

So I call Toyota Roadside assistance, truck hauled 50 miles to nearest Toyota dealer, after pleading with them that I'll have no transport dealer arranges to give me a rental Scion to me for use; so we arrive at dealer well past closing Dealer gives me owner's dad cell number to call so I can fill out rental agreement. This is at 9 pm on Saturday night.

Truck is 120 miles away from my house and still waiting for a call to see what the problem is; I'm guessing fuel system (specficly fuel pump). Does anybody have any thoughts? Can I ask for the gas money to fill up the scion they gave me empty? Don't know if Dealer will have me drive all the way back down to pick up or if they'll meet half way. Will keep forum posted

Could be any number of things but maybe just a blown fuel pump fuse. I disabled my truck the other day by removing the fuel pump fuse. The truck cranks but no start. I also noticed that it will kinda keep cranking on it's own like the computer is trying over ride something.

Wish I had the internet out in the middle of nowhere that was fast! And I would have saved me 1.5 hours of sitting on my butt waiting for the tow truck, we'll see what the problem is but If I knew of the fuse I would have checked that first.

The fuse box lists what all the fuses are for under the lid for future reference There are a few spare fuses in the box but not one for the fuel pump. Might be able to use one of the others though in a pinch if one blew out in the boonies.

Be sure to let us know exactly what it was when you get it back. Might be something we should know about.

Yup first thing I would have checked is the fuse box, the bumpy road may also have dislodged the fuse.

I got bad news this afternoon, the dealer service called and said they took a fuel sample and found that 1/4 of it was water. They have to drop the tank empty it can then clean it as best they can then use a fuel additive to absorb the rest. So they're going to fix this for around $375, of which $100 will be my deductable the rest paid by my issurance as a vandalisim claim. Then my next purchase on Amazon will be a Stant 10504 locking fuel cap.

So here's my guess as to what happened:
While in Red River Gorge in Kentucky, My truck was parked in Sheltowee Trace Trail parking lot off of 715 on Saturday from 1630-1715. My gas gauge says I have 1/2 a tank of gas and the dealer service department estimates 1/4 of that is filled with water. Needless to say not long after leaving the parking lot area toward the Gladie center my Tundra stopped working. The truck was towed to the nearest Toyota dealer in Richmond, KY.

If I were to guess who did this to me, it would be a red dodge pickup that I parked next to in the parking lot. When parking he honked at me because he felt I got too close to his truck. While getting ready to hike down to the suspension bridge he stayed in his truck with the windows rolled up and smoking with kids in the truck, later he did roll down the window to get fresh air. When we returned from hiking the truck was gone. and soon after when we left the parking lot is when my truck stopped working. I'd like to take $400 of frustration out of his arse.

That sucks!!
I would leave the family home and drive with a different vehicle where I could see the parking place and wait and see if those panks show up.
Ohh yes, I also would bring two LLB of sugar!

While a locked fuel door prevents tempering with the fuel, it does not prevent the theft of the fuel.
More and more you hear and read about fuel theft where the thieves drill or punch a hole in the tank and drain the fuel this way.
I just yesterday talked to a friend who repairs big Semi trucks and it happened to one of their customers. Even if those trucking companies are insured for the damage, they are out of the fuel and the deductible + the down time, which hurt them most.
With the increasing fuel prices and them to be next winter at or over $5 next winter, this will become a common problem even for us!

Talk to anyone in the oil industry and that is what everyone is estimating.
Currently oil companies are budgeting at $4.65 around here!!
