Second thoughts about purchasing Tundra

I was all excited to take delivery of my new Tundra tomorrow but now having second thoughts. After browsing several problem topics the biggest concern to me is the paint issue. Not too thrilled paying $32k for a truck and having the paint look like crap after a short time. Feel bad for the members here tackling this issue at the moment. Not sure what to do as of now. I dig the powertrain and looks as everyone else does. Are all the colors scratching easily?

Thanks

Helps a little. I was looking at white or red as my color choices. I would like to make a decision by tomorrow. Thanks for your input

i also have a white tundra. i've had mine over 2 months now and i drive it everyday, highways and everything i go through muds, rain and sometimes i have cats in my neighborhood that jumps on it and sleep there and stuff. right now nothing has happened to my truck [knock on wood] but i figured if cats can use there claws to jump on my hood and no scratches or anything. im sure the paint is pretty okay.

Everybody who is thinking of buying a vehicle from Toyota USA should know one thing:
In total disrespect of State law, any warranty claim has to be made to Toyota USA, the dealer does not warranty the vehicle.
The dealer only sees himself (at least this is the case with Emerson Toyota) as an agent for the factory with no responsibilities to you as the customer!

When you have a warranty case, the dealer will call the regional factory rep, who comes only once a month and the customer has to come a 2nd time without getting the vehicle repaired!
You will loose one more day by driving to the dealer and the Toyota regional manager/reps does not come before 10 AM and in my case she was 35 minutes late!!
When you ask Toyota why this factory rep can’t look at the vehicle your office, you will be told by the Toyota telephone rep and supervisor that the Toyota regional manager/reps time is more valuable then yours!
If you like to be treated this way and if you want a truck which rust on every corner in the first year, go ahead and buy a Toyota!

hey bro I have a black toyota tundra.......had it for about 5 months, actually for about 4, it was on ship for a month. The paint of the truck, well I love my truck, but the paint does scratch easily. I once opened my DC rear door while at walmart (irrelevant) and it slightly touched the car next to it and there was a chip of paint. I mean as soon as it touched. I was like DAMN IT!!! I mean i know noone else will notice, but damn it, if I'm going to invest all this money into a powerful machine, I don't want to worry about the paint. I've started looking for paint protectors and all.......Have yet to be successful.....but its a bummer Toyota seemed to overlook that. But I TOTALLY HEAR YOU BRO.........

Thanks for all the input and info. However, I'm still undecided at the moment. The dealer is expecting me to arrive today for the purchase and I will just tell them about the paint problem. They might not make a sale due to this issue. I really like the truck, but I want a solid quality product just like every consumer.
Sounds like some people are okay with the paint and some are experiencing problems.

I will have had my 07 CM for 1 year here in June. I have 12500 miles and my paint looks as good as it ever did. Granted, you have to be careful as with any paint. If your vehicle is really dirty/dusty - scratches are inevitable. However, even small scratches in the finish can generally be waxed out. In my opinion, the paint is no different than my last GMC. You should not have second doubts just because what you have read about the paint. The concerns or complaints you read on this forum do not necessarily apply to all owners across the board. From my understanding, many complaints I have read about the paint also apply to other manufacturers as well and that it's more of an industry issue than just Toyota. If you choose to get something else simply because of the paint, you will alway be envious when you see that TUNDRA go by!

Great input I realy don't want to be swayed away to another brand. I like the Tundra, it's the powertrain and reputation of Toyota quality that drew me in, no question. I just didn't realize there was some paint problems with the Toyota ( Glad I recently joined the site ). I've owned 5 Dodge trucks ( just sold my '06 Cummins ) and the paint was never an issue. Being a member of some Dodge sites, people have problems as well. I guess all brands have their issues in one way or another. BTW, what color is your truck?

Thanks everyone

I personnally believe the folks with paint problems have not had a new veh. in the past few years. It is the same crappy paint I have had on my last few new cars. Scratches fairly easy, but that goes for the dodge and nissan I have had recently. Seems to buff out better then most on this toyota

Thanks guy's for all the reply's. I picked up a new SR5 TRD Double Cab today in silver. The silver looked to be a shade darker than most silver colored vehicles I've seen. I paid $31782 OTD
