The oil won't drain out
Fresh after a 4 hour drive (with no issues), It became time to change the oil on my 2007 5.7 Tundra for the second time (I did the first one myself).
While running on auto pilot, I just unscrewed the whole plastic oil filter assembly and lowered it and the oil filter directly into my oil pan. Perhaps 1 cup of oil came with it and that was it. I inwardly gasped at the notion of my truck having almost no oil in it, but I checked the dip stick and it registers "above the bare minimum bar" for oil yet. I've cleaned the dipstick and checked it a few times after letting the truck sit for an hour as well - same result. So I think more oil is in there yet. I've put the old oil filter back in place and tried the plastic drain plug 2 times to get more oil. I get next to nothing, whether I remove the oil filter or just leave the plug sit to drain. Anyone know why the Tundra won't give up the oil? I know it's like 115$ a barrel, but I've got more, so the truck shouldn't be holding out now should it? Thanks guys p.s. The oil gaskets are in place and the drain plug gets snapped properly in place as far as I can tell. Either way, I'm guessing removing the oil filter itself should give me a torrent of oil. |

Oil Change
When you change the oil in your new tundra the cartridge style filter comes with a little tool you insert into the hole after you take the filter cap off, only about a half a quart should drain out! Then you have to undo the 3/4 (I believe)inch bolt from the oil pan that is where the other 7 quarts are located. You have done nothing wrong and there is nothing wrong with your Yota. Hope this helps

So, Toyota pulled the old "gotta take off the oil pan bolt" trick ehh?
Ohh goodness, how could I have forgotten about the oil pan bolt... what a comical error! Thanks Hooyaatundra, I appreciate the "tip" ). Last edited by Bubbs : 05-03-2008 at 10:41 PM. |
