Jonathan I went through that with GM. Hell they didn't even show up for arbitration just a letter explainging how great their warranty system is.When I went in the first attempt to fix the headliner the parts dept ordered it and I received a card telling me to set an appointment within 10 days or part will be sent back. SO I did. Like you I got a rental which was a dodge neon. Way too small for me. The truck was fixed the next day so I was on my way. Two weeks later the headliner came down again. Now the way they handled it from here told me the real story. They had to order it again but I didn't receive a card when it supposively came in. Well this time I demanded a truck or a comparable full size car. Well I got the car because of no truck available. Since the headliner came down 2 days later this tells me they just pushed up the headliner and never replaced it. Went back in demanded to have it fix and I won't take nothing but a truck as a rental. Well I got a ford truck this time and they so called replace the headliner. After the first time the headliner came down I searched other GM dealers in the area. Out of the 3 dealers I checked 2 out of 5 at Jerry Hamm, 3 out of 5 at Crest, 2 out of 4 at George Moore, and where I bought it at Coggin it was 2 out of 4 also had their headliners down brand new. After checking the last dealer George Moore I couldn't take no more B/S and asked the sales Manager about this. Since all salesman knew nothing of what I was talking about and it showed. The sales manager did. His quote"When the customer finds the issue we will fix it then". What kind of B/S was that? That's defrauding the public. You know you have a defect and you won't say anything till a customer finds it? I was livid with that. I contacted an area rep and after the third time replacing he contacted me back stating it was a defect and it was cut to short. You may have to go through 10 till you get the right one to fit. 10!!! That's ridiculous. After meeting with a area rep when the 5 time it fell and this fellow was your typical rep that won't budge. He looks at the headliner, rubs it, all while I'm telling him the issues I was having with it, he pushes it up and states someone pulled down this headliner. I ignored him and stated another reason I think why it keeps falling down and he states again "Nothing wrong with this headliner someone pulled it down". SO now I state to him it drops at the driver's door first and whatever door I use the most next. He states again "Nothing wrong with this headliner someone pulled it down. Then we argue because now he has accused me 3x for pulling it down then states that the dealer was fixing it just to please me. So to please me he opened the door 4x and close it and on the 5th time it fell. I saw red and I was grabbed before I could hit the little weasel. I made sure everyone heard me loud and clear. Well this went on for 8x went through arbitration and lost after the 5x. They were suppose to replace my truck when I get an email from General Manager that they will never replace a truck that isn't safety related and you don't qualify. So like you the rattles won't get you a new truck. After both tail lights fell off and then the ABS brakes had to be fixed twice and the vibration was still there, After all my Bark about it I gave up and traded it in and lost $7,000 on this Tundra I have now. What helped was I bought a Prius also at the same time with the rebate and they matched the same off on the truck plus I put down a couple of grand I never looked back. Jonathan what really gets me the service was great in the begining and after the 3rd time and they hear LEMON the service was gone with the wind. No help what so ever. Trying to get that truck as a rental was impossible. The icing on the cake they called me and asked if I owned another GM vehicle. Needless to say I was no gentleman to the lady that asked. I had that truck at 3 different dealers to fix it. I was charged to fix my brakes twice even under warranty. To top it I went through GM school back in 76-77. So to have piece of mind Jonathan I paid the price and traded it in. I had my TUndra in twice to fix the pass mirror which wouldn't auto close at 15,000 and now at 26,000 I had my center console cover would stay close all the time replaced in 15 minutes. The mirror in 45 minutes. What I'm telling you is all manufacturers have their issues now and then. It's how they take care of you is why you would stay. You also have to try other dealers just to see who would listen and help you. Personally I wouldn't have had an outside source fool with the dash. This could've cause you to lose your warranty.

peaceful easy feeling

gotta say, "letting it rip" here feels pretty good. thanks for the support, and good humor. dez is a funny dude, for sure - - beer and kick-ass tequila on me should we meet. ribs too, unless you're a vegetarian...

still, i've got the right ot be po'd. mickey's tale is sad too, but that's why we bought tundras over silverados, n'est pas? two wrongs don't make a right? and i'm completely at ease with mechanical "situations" but full-on uneasy with toyota's failure to take responsibility.

i expected more from toyota, and feel i was "promised" more when i bought the thing -- i very trusting, to a fault i'd say... i like my tundra and hope to someday soon get over the urge to
smash-the-dash-in-with-a-sledgehammer-every-time-time-i-drive-to- work because-toyota-can't-fix-it-but-says-it's-fixed-which-sucks-and-rattles-like-crazy-and-the hood-release-is-falling-out-and-the-dash-paint-is-flaking-off.

i have to say, that while i don't mean to bring anyone down here, you have to admit that it probably benefits all of us if we "call it out" when it's appropriate. i'm kinda insulted by implication that we're all a bit retarded, that we're all slimy let's-get something-for nothing freeloaders and that once toyota admits to REAL PROBLEMS, we're all going to to demand new vehicles because, say, the letters wore off out tires. ouch. or, maybe that's the way it goes and all humans are bad freeloading good for nothings and is big manufacturers didn't defend themselves from us a good truck might cost over 100,000.00

mickey, for real, if i were a chevy owner, and i let GM know how you were treated would you respond in the same way? what message are we sending if we accept this "washing of the hands" because it's "the nature of the beast. sorry, i expected more from toyota, and i can see more and more why toyota is getting a similar rep to the "big three"

a week or so after i bought my truck, i was listening to a broadcast but tom and ray on "Car Talk". they were commenting on the recent Consumer Reports ratings regarding the tundra and toyota in general. tom or ray, can't remember which, said, essentially, that if there were problems, toyota would take are of it. the other, said "well, we'll see" we'll i've seen and it's ugly.

ok, ok. back to the friendly stuff. i'm way less mad now hanging here. i want to say thanks for the support, the levity the humor and the insight. likely, i'll find a new dealer, get the truck fixed, feel validated by the week it will spend in the shop, and on to the good things the tundra has to offer.

cheers, and it's the martini talking.

Great post "J", glad to see you're feeling better about everything. Coldies, tequila, and a big rack of ribs sounds good to me. I've got a BBQ up at the Dez pad!

Jonathan if you were to talk to GM I still respond the same. They would not hear a word from me just the middle finger. I was treated real bad from 3 dealerships, one area rep and the same customer service rep I had through the months. As I said with no redbull talking, and get it right DEZ it's ULTRA. I put GM on the bottom along with Ford. If you feel that you were mistreated by all means I would agree with you and drop the truck. I'm telling you from experiences I had. No one will help you. You have to do it yourself. Personally I wouldn't put up with the rattles. Make that sign and put it in the back of your truck and tell/show the world the problems and how you were treated. Do it passing by or in front of the dealers. Maybe this will shed some light on the dealership when media coverage is negative. As for two wrongs making it right, well mines was the right choice to get away. Like you I had that negative feeling riding in the truck. I hated it because you never knew what else would happen. All I can say for you I know what you're going through and wish you luck

"J", find another dealership and take a chill pill or two before you go in so they don't assume you're a whiner from the get go. I sounds as if you have had problems due to the dealership and not necessarily Toyota. Alot of new vehicles have bugs to be worked out, but not all dealerships like to step up to the plate and take responsibility. Good luck bro!

thanks, for the good advice - - but can i yell a liile as mickey has suggested? ok, ok, i got it, no whining.

you're right that the dealer is really the one who bonked the truck, and i'm totally at ease with mechanical issues and bugs. still, toyota did get involved, eventually, and they should have as they are, in part, responsible. the "corrupt" actions of the NCDS was salt on my wounds, and i'm kinda stuck now becase the regional field engineer came to work on the truck and is claiming it's repaired and it obviosly is not. just thinking about all this, instantly into a whining crazy person.

ok enough of that. any boston area recs for a solid dealership? i just like to get the truck repaired.
