Finally, tackling the paint problem

Cool thanks man. I'll def. look into it next time I wax my truck in about a month or two. I have the Zymol Titanium that I'll put on after this process.

From what my novice ass can tell, it works great. I'm not sure if it's due to that or the quick detailer I use, but water just beads off it.

It takes years of practice. But no seriously, if I don't know about a product, I ask people then generally buy the most expensive one. Kindda dumb I know but I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

As for that turtle wax stuff. I was shown by the chevy body shop guys how to get rid of the scratches on my bed rail. After cleaning with water and drying it he sprayed on widex with I think it was 400 grit but I was told the finest water sandpaper and you rub the scratch area. Then you wash off with water again dry it again then apply that turtle wax and buff out. I couldn't believe the scratches were all gone on my black truck.

That made me cringe. I'm not brave enough to try that.

That is a commonly used process in body shops and it's very effective! I would just be scared to sand too deep with this thin paint and maybe expose the primer coat.

We're upto 81 signatures (thanks everyone!) with over 900 views, so not major, but it's only been active for a week or so on 2 forums.

I've got a meeting with the regional service manager at my local Toyota dealership to see the truck - I'm going to take some photos and also send these off to Toyota to see what they say. I'll report back here as to how we move forwards.

1 more week, several more scratches. booo.

signed. anyone have the dealer offer them what I believe was called X protectant or something similar to that? My dealership offered it to me which I purchased for $399 and it comes with a 5 year warranty. Bad thing is I have yet to have a chance to have it applied with my schedule conflicting with the dealer's. So I have a few scrathes and rub marks after three weeks of ownership and 4 washes. Kind of defeats the purpose now, that is if it would have even helped.

Well... that is a new one. They offered me a Simoniz treatment for $699, but I did not take it. You cannot wax it or it voids the warrenty of the product. It does not warrenty against stratches or rust. But if you have it on there, you cannot wax it to take out the scatches??? Catch 22 I think. Mick has Toyoguard on his. Not sure how that was applied. Mick has had pretty good luck with that from the sounds of it. My dealer has not heard of Toyoguard. So I am starting to think, it is just what the dealer is calling it since they all seem to have a 5 year warrenty.
