6 Speed Trans Gear Hunting

I've got 10,000 miles on my 07 and noticed my 6 speed trans started gear hunting when it was cold a few nights ago getting on the freeway. Anyone else had this happen?

Sorry to hear that. Man I must be lucky now. I have 25,000 miles and no issues.

I've never had mine hunt, but yesterday 3 times it didn't want to shift past 4th, unless I went into S mode, and selected 6th.

I have only 2000 miles on my 08 dbl cab and it seems to be gear hunting at times. seems like it down shifts funny at times also. will try and wait until first oil change before taking it back to dealer. thought toyota was a quality product , but it seems like someone was asleep on the transmission design team this time. i have read a lot of bad stuff about this transmission, but unfortunately after i purchased my truck. there should definitly be a recall on these transmissions, because there is no way a transmission this busy can last 100,000 miles.

Does this happen when you leave it in auto or when you use the shift?

Happens when I have it in auto (D). Have not tried it in (S) yet. Will try and let you know. Seems to happen primarily at lower speeds.

Herbert, Im with you!! When I have mine in A running at 40-55 MPH the tach says around 1000 to 1100, when you touch the gas nothing is there and it seems to have to find the right gear after a second or two. Mine also hunts for gears as well. It's like it can't make up its mind where it wants to be at!!!!

I have a similar problem

I am also a member at Tundrasolutions.com and had asked the question there.

My truck has been doing this since the day I bought it and I just accepted this as normal. For me it happens when the truck is rolling at low speed and then I go to speed up (like when you come close to stopping at a yield sign). The engine RPMs will climb but the truck won't speed up for a couple of seconds.

I think what is happening is that the tranny fluid pressure is too high for the truck to kick down but too low to get in to gear; the computer thinks the truck is idling. So the engine RPMs are then just building up the pressure just enough to activate the shift.

Mine does exactly the same thing. But also at times it down shifts a little funny. I think it is designed to do it when going down an incline for engine braking, but I live in south Louisiana and there aren't any inclines here, just flat ground.

Mine does it too, and I think it's normal, but it does feel wierd.
I think it's either a pressure problem, or more than likely, an ECM Decision problem. See attached PDF.

Tundrascout, is that the actual Tundra transmission manual you posted? If so, how did you get it? I like having the shop manual fo rmy vehicles so I am interested if there is already one of these available for purchase.

Is it possible that the transmission is working as intended. What is correct for a 30 year old AOD may not hold true for this transmission....

I'm not saying that there isn't a problem - just that it is possible that there isn't.
