Both were built in Indiana. The other truck has developed a different noise that is also associated with a vibration felt through the steering wheel and the gas pedal. Mostly going up hill under meduim throttle.

Well, just drove 2 hours round trip to pick up the truck. I started it up and drove it 10 ft...it rattled worse than ever.
So, I've left it there so that they can try again. They have given me a POS Camry to drive which beats riding a horse. But the two hours of wasted time causes me brain damage!

Another update: After a week and a half, the dealer tells me they need to call in a factory rep to look at it. Of which I was tolsd orginally but I guss that never happened. I'm told it will be another month before this can be accomplished.

For anyone who is following this who might be interested in buying a Tundra...I borrowed a freinds 2005 Silverado last night. After a hour or so of seat time, it reminded me of how awesome the Tundra is. Strange rattle or not, the Tundra is a better vehicle and we all made the right choice.

I also have the vibration in the steering, pedal and floorboard when gently accelerating. Its not a shudder (as in the torque converter issue), but rather a buzzing feeling. It sounds like exhaust drone to me. I took it to the dealer but they could not find anything wrong.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone else that has this same problem and perhaps had it resolved.

I have the same problem in the other Tundra. I don't notice it much. But drives my father crazy.

Another update:
Since it's been a month since they told me they would contact me, I called. They said they are waiting for the factory rep to check in and that it may be another month. They claim they now have more trucks that are having this same problem.
Meanwhile, the rattle in my truck is getting louder.

On some trucks and SUV's (Toyota) are some little tabs in the disc brakes that wil tap either way the first time you move in that direction. Once you are going forward or backward, they are set up in that direction and don't make noise. Dealer can pop em off the rotor and lube em and it will go away.

same thing

I have the same issue that the dealer cannot figure out or "replicate". I have another appointment with them in the morning so the mechanic can drive with me so he can hear it himself. I was thinking that it was due to the 3inch daystar leveling kit, but the installer is puzzled as well. But at least he heard the noise and retightened everything. I've crawled underneath that beast on multiple ocassions tightening/loosening bolts and inspecting everything but cannot figure it out. Hopefully the dealer will be able to hear something. They plan on putting microphones on the suspension to isolate where the "click" is coming from. On ocassion, you can feel the click as well as hear it.

I found the noise in the front end, the wire hardness (passager side) was unclip from the fire wall support, driving on rought road the sound was transmitted in the cab.

If you have your dealer call Tom Druzynski at Hoselton Toyota in Rochester, NY...they have some data on this problem on a number of trucks.

I still have no resolution nor has the factory rep been available for many months to come check it out. I'm getting annoyed to say the least.

Wink

Thanks for the info. I will give them his name and hopefully they will not blow me off again. Through four wheel parts ( who installed the leveling kit) and me crawling like a mad man under the truck for hours on end, I have narrowed it down to the steering rack or a ball joint, I think. It's hard to tell. It does happen more frequently in colder weather which leads me to believe the steering rack because the ball joints have rubber/nylon bushings against the metal I believe. Who knows. This was the first Tundra sold in Texas... I maybe should have waited a little. I still will stick with Toyotas even with this problem. FYI, they already replaced the driveshaft due to serious slop when shifting which fixed the problem.

Well, the dealership has seen the truck once already and replaced the front left strut stating that it was leaking. Drove the truck home, same noise. Back today and they say that the noise is the upper a-arm hitting the spring due to the Daystar 3 inch coil over. They are calling the Toyota Rep. but are pretty certain that is what the noise is. I don't buy it. I even strapped a MP3 player to the wheel well and put it on a cd for them to hear. It is clearly not what they are claiming but they are still looking at it again. The noise is more frustrating than problamatic, but I can't stand it. I will be contacting Daystar again too... This is the 4th time they have looked at the truck without fixing it. What do I do next if they don't fix it?
