Whirring noise @ 25-30 mph

My 07 Tundra started making a whirring noise around 4000 miles. It happens most at 25 - 30 mph. I have brought it into the dealer and they confirmed it on a test drive. During the test drive they put it into four wheel drive and the problem went away thus not being able to locate the problem. It started up again after about 1500 miles or so. When I brought it back to the dealer they again confirmed the noise and they put some sort of listening device on it and figured that they narrowed it down to the front differential. They ordered a new assembly and changed it out. I picked the truck up and the same day it started to do it again so I stopped back to the dealer and I took 2 of their top mechanics for a test drive and they confirmed it was still doing it within a quarter mile. They were unable to pin-point the problem and they told me that Toyota is aware of the problem and that they are trying to figure out a fix for it. I have to deal with it until they figure out a fix and issue a recall. It has been a month and a half since it was last in and the problem showed up again a couple of days ago. This is not a constant problem because it comes and goes, sometimes not happening for a couple thousand miles since it last happenned. I have noticed that the last couple of times that it has happenned that my steering has felt a little loose and wandering right before the noise presents itself.
Is anyone else noticeing this problem?
I love my truck but I hate that it isn't being solved!

I have an update to this!!!!!!!! Toyota is saying that it is the front differential and that they are re-designing a new one and they will eventually post a recall.

Thanks for the update. I had my diff replaced a few months ago and the whirring noise is gone (more like "wu wu wu wu"). But, the front diff is still not quiet. It sometimes has a constant drone type sound. Not always, but sometimes.

Just curious, where did you hear about his redesign and recall? Usually a recall is only for safety related items where they want all trucks back in for an updated part. Perhaps a TSB?

My bad!!! Yes, I did mean a TSB. "Wu wu wu wu" is exactly what I was experiencing. The dealership replaced the front diff a few months ago and right after they did so it was still doing it. Apparently with my luck i got another bad one. A couple of weeks ago I met with a rep from Toyota and of course it wouldn't do it with him around, luckily two techs had documented at an earlier date. He explained to me what was going on.

Well, it sounds like Toyota is going to hopefully fix this finally with an official TSB. Mine is pretty good, but I'll keep an eye (or an ear) on it. Thanks again for the info!
