i also had the problem of the volume not working, no matter how much you spin the knob it would not go up or down, i tried turning it off and on and switching between fm-cd and back and forth, nothing worked. i came back about 2 hrs later and tried it and it still did not work. while in fm1 the radio started to randomly change stations. i called the toyota dealer about this problem and explained it to them, they asked me to come in so they could get a number off of the stereo and then they said they would call me when my replacement stereo is in. i hope it works better than this one i have now. i dont know who made the cd player for my 98 tacoma but it has taken a beating and is still working great.

It seems like the electronics is a hit and miss thing. From what I read Toyota has replaced all units that has a problem.

Just get it replaced. It shouldn't be an issue.

Same here. No questions asked. Tell them the display on the radio was showing mixed up symbols as well. They should replace it.

ASL , it adjusts the volume higher when your driving and lowers it when you stop . Check your owners manual to see and understand the settings .
