My 2007 Tundra is dripping oil....

after an oil change. It has been Dripping oil for over a week. We took it back to the place where the oil change was done, but they say there is nothing wrong with it. We have took it back to the place 3 times now and when we get home it continues to drip. What could be the problem?

Well, there definitely IS something wrong if it's leaking oil. When you say "place that changed the oil"... are we talking about a quick lube shop or a Toyota dealer? The filter on the 5.7L engine is a cartridge style and many places may not know how to properly put them on. Even some Toyota service centers can't get it right from what I've read.

There is also a TSB out for very early '07 models that has to do with the dipstick tube leaking at the base. I don't recall the details, but it only affected models built up to about Feb '07 from what I recall. Still, it might be worth a look.

I'd recommend taking it to a Toyota dealer or to a different Toyota dealer if you've already been to one.

Sounds like they screwed up replacing one of the two o-rings used on the oil filter element housing. Or, maybe they didn't tighten the center nut on the pre-drain fitting in the center of the housing. That's usually the problem.

This is why I change my own oil. It's the only way to make sure it gets done right.

That is why you should get it changed at the dealer and not a quick lube shop because they don't hardly know what the hell they are doing.

I agree with you and Run it hard. I'm not a Jiffy Lube type person and If I wanted to I would be like Run it hard and do it myself.

Tundra oil/filter changes

I just finished my first, 1.5 hour, sloppy, oil and filter change in thirty years (even using mhadden’s excellent instructions)!

There really isn’t any excuse for something as important to car operation as an oil filter, to be designed like this and hidden behind 20 minutes worth work to get at it. The auto industry figured this out 30 or forty years ago and to go back to the “oil filter stone age” is inexcusable. Worse that it is done by a car company with a rep for quality and common sense like Toyota. The only light in the tunnel is that I’ll bet someone can make an aftermarket fix.

The first two changes I had done were done at the dealer. After today’s experience, I’m pretty sure my filter was never changed until today. This leads me to make a nasty prediction that a bunch of these 07, 5.7’s will show up on used car lots in a couple years with OEM filters on board.

First impression on the dealer’s oil change price is it was high. Now, I can’t imagine a mechanic meeting the “flat rate” time. Therefore I believe a lot of corners will be cut. (In the 70’s I was a tech for VW, Porsche/Audi and Mazda. Currently, I keep my farm fleet and 4 private cars serviced).
