Check engine light

Quick question...is it possible to just reset/turn off the check engine light but not clear the computer of the code that set it off originally so it would in essence come back on after a couple of time turning the ignition off/on. I'm having reoccuring CEL lights happen after it goes into the dealer for the same code and am becoming skeptical.

Ummm not sure if this is the same problem with the check engine light but. After i got my oil changed before 5000 the check engine light came on so this is the way to turn that off maybe it will work for you? Turn the key like your going to start the truck but don't start it. Put your odometer to trip 1. Then turn the key off like your turning off your truck leave the key in. Then push and hold the odometer button. Then turn the key on Again don't start the truck(Still holding the odometer button) A series of lights should flash in the odometer window keep holding until the last light flash to nothing the check engine light should go off. Thats how to get if off after it comes on when you need an oil change. Maybe it will work?

In one of my other treads I spoke about the check engine light code 400's for sensors on my 03 F-150. The first time I was told it takes 8 cycles for the computer to drop the light and code. One cycle is start run for awhile and stop engine. I was also told it's a possible gas cap problem and then that didn't work it was me filling too much gas in the truck. Ahh I guess I'm dumbfounded. The truck was 9 months old when this started. I guess I changed my way of filling up the the dollar mark. But turned out to be a nightmare on the computer. You know manufacturer's didn't put out a bad product it was LOWJACK Velcroed around the computer caused it to malfunction. Well now you know what I'm talking about. For me I would take it in and tell them what is happening. Reason is DOCUMENTATION. You get a copy and so do they. History of the vehicle in case of later things may go wrong for you. I'm not saying it will but cover the rear end. Have it checked out. Find out what code it's giving and learn from it. When you're done let us know what went down so we all can be in the know. Knowledge is POWER.
