Thumbs down Toyota Paint Problems

I have been reading tons of blogs about thin paint, paint scratches, paint chips and some temporary solutions (wax and sealants), but what is Toyota doing about it? I have only had my 08 Tundra for 45 days and I have only washed it 3 times, and I have small scratches showing up everywhere. I had my GMC for 4 years and only had a couple of scratches in it when I traded it in. I took it my Tundra to the dealer, and they have one excuse after another... but not one admittance about a non-durable paint product. Other then the paint, I have no complaints. What do we do?

Its true the paint is thin and scratches easily and the touch up paint does not match up well. From what I am hearing it is not only Toyotas its other brands as well. I guess just wax the heck out of it to protect it. I had dogs scratch up mine and it will not buff out. I feel your pain

Yeah... I have heard that other brands are having the same issue, but I am still wondering why they have not done anything about it. Sealing the paint at the factory or offering a reduced price from the factroy would go a long way! Does anyone know if Toyota has made any offical announcements about their paint?

I've heard others say that all new cars are like that...then my wife bought a new 2008 Pontiac, and the paint is durable, where as my 2008 Toyota is butter.

Have you done anything special to prevent it from getting worse?

Claybar before waxing to get all impurities out and it makes it feel smooth also. Dealership gave me a bottle of sealant wax. I haven't tried it yet. Not sure of it till I get a whole weekend off I will try it with the claybar again. Every 6 months CLAYBAR. This I learned from two professional detailers who worked at a Ford and a Chevy dealership to fix those problems when you buy a new vehicle.
Both stated every 6 months.

Thanks! In the end, I just wish they would admit that they have a problem and just start sealing the paint.

Hello All, I am looking at a 08 DC 4x4 SR5 the dealer is trying to sell me a coating where they spray the whole truck the body and under with a coating that is supposed to keep the truck fading and preventing any rust or corossion. has anyone ever heard of this and is it worth it or just another way to nickel and dime you. they want $700 to have this done seems like alot to pay

My friend the word is TOYOGUARD. I have it on mine. Didn't have the choice. It was a Southeastern Toyota promotion. Anything I can get that has or extends the warranty I'm for it. The price looks the same but I have it on another tread how much and what it covers.

Will a supposed state of the art automated wash system with non scratch, polishing cloth brushes ruin the paint of a 2008 Black Tundra Crew Max?

uhmm... that is a good question? Since my paint seems to scratch just by hand washing it, I have not been brave enough to try it. I did use the claybar recommended by Mickey, and I wax it. That did seem to help... but still not brave enough to take it to a car wash.

Don't blame you at a car wash. The old addage comes to play. If you want it done right do it yourself. SO I can blame myself and Home Depot for my scratches in my tailgate. Dang baskets. I didn't even park close. Dang basket had a sonar and a reverse camera and found my truck. Probably GPS also.

the paint is awfully. i had an black 05 mustang and never had has many scratches in two years as i do with my black tundra which is only 8 months old. Its ridiculous. I baby the hell out of the paint. I'll even take it to a touch-less car wash just to get all the dust off before i go home and wash it. I wouldn't doubt if the whole truck will be re-painted in the next year. If you just bought a new tundra, i would take it right to a body shop and have them put a couple layers of clearcoat on. If i only knew that when i first bought it
