It will hurt them in long run.
When friends ask you and me about truck and you discuss paint. Instead of + buyers it is - buyers.

That is not the only thing:
1. The rust issue!
2. The treatment if you complain and have to come again when the factory rep gives his/her grace of a visit!

And times of the big trucks / SUV are over anyway.

Yeah... I am not happy with the way they have treated me! After all of the emails and talking to Toyota, they still talk to me like I did this to my paint on purpose Yep... that is right... I just couldn't help it.... I was too f...ing happy, and I did this so I could get so pissed off that I wanted you to die a slow death. Yep... Toyota... you got me

The BBB was not any help in the end... From the BBB,"Toyota inspected customer’s vehicle on June 4, 2008 and found paint concerns caused by external sources and are not covered under Toyota's warranty. Customer not satisfied with Toyota's decision. Our position remains the same no assistance.
Our position remains the same no assistance."

The BBB always helps their members.
They don't even list complains. Make a search in a few weeks and there will be nothing on file!
On top the BBB tries to pressure you into becomming a member. If you don't, they will keep the complain on file.
Nice, isn't it!

Yeah... they were really nice to forward it on to Toyota for me... but that was the extent of it

I have no complaint about the paint. No different then any other trucks I had. Black color is worse to show all swirls etc. Nautical Blue is the same as Black it will show the swirls. You have to use great products to help keep your paint in great shape. Also helps when they put on a paint sealant.

I'd have to disagree Mickey.. I've had numerous black trucks, and whilst I agree about the swirls, no truck I've had has had the amount of scratches and chips that the Tundra has had... I've had a Grand Jeep Cherokee and an BMW X5, both in black, the swirls showed, but there were zero scratches and chips.

On my Tundra, there's wear marks in the door where my wifes clothes or bag has rubbed against the edge, there's scratch marks in the tailgate where my keys knocked ONCE against the paint when locking the hard cover, a plastic garbage bin rolled against the body, lightly for about 2 inches... a huge scratch mark, there's scratches where people have walked inbetween the truck and another car in a car park. This is all within a month... I had the previous trucks for few years each, and NON had the marks on it the Tundra has - I sold the X5 a couple of months ago and after 3 years, it did not have 1 scratch, nor chip, but yes, light swirl marks.. even though I wipe with the 'flow' of the vehicle and don't swirl when putting on wax or clean...

To me the Tundra is a truck, it's meant to be harder and tougher than anything out there (other than diggers and dozers!), and it simply isn't the case..

make it 148. Just signed it. I am about to start SCREAMING at my dealer. EVERY WEEK I wash it there is another WTF. I had a GTO for over a year with about 7 k miles on it...I think I dabbed a cover up knick twice.

My firebird had 47 k miles...MAYBE a chip or two. My wifes corrola looks like some took a shotgun to the front end. And even my Sequioa wasnt as bad as this.

Someone stepped up my bumper to climb in the back. The toe of their CLEAN sneark rubbed on the edge...I now have a massive scratch under the rear light above the bumper. FROM A SNEAKER.

TOYOTA- If were were to use our trucks ONE FRIEKEN DAY like you claim in your FRIEKEN commercial (where one second its clean and white and they pull back up two minutes later covered in mud and towing a cat skid steer) there would be scratches and chips ALL OVER THE DAMN vehicle and would need repaint after the first day on the job.

GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER>

I hear yeah!! I have been to the dealer (on a weekly basis), and they will not do anything. The dealer says Toyota must deal with it. Filed several complaints to the Toyota help (Toyota Help), and they go with anything the Toyota rep says. The Toyota rep agreed that I had scratches, but then said it was from "external sources" and Toyota would not provide any assistance. Filed complaints to: IVOQ - File a Complaint and BBB, but that has not helped either. If we do not get someone bigger involved, then we will just be here bitching to each other about it. But.... I am right there with you!

Sorry Mick, but I do not agree. I had my 04 GMC for 4 years, and there was only a couple small scratches in it when I traded it in. I never waxed or polished it. I usually washed it once a week by hand in the summer. In the winter, I would take it through the carwashes once or twice a month. I know in FL you can wash and wax you truck all year around; but in MT, it is kind of hard to do that it the winter when the only thing you can get out of the hose is ice. In the 4 years I had that truck, I drove it everyday to work, camping in the summer, hunting in the winter... like I said only a couple scratches. Just one more point... if you have driven on icy roads, then you know with icy roads comes gravel, salt and stupid ass drivers. Rocks hitting your truck is very common in the winter here. I had maybe 2 or 3 small chips in my hood. I now have probably 20 or more small chips in my hood from one winter road trip. Hell... the $20.00 a gallon Walmart house paint is more durable then the paint on my truck!!! You do not see me waxing my house, and that paint is guaranteed for 20 years!

i've been reading a few pages of this paint problem and paint sealent protection.. Im also a auto detailer and i own a 07 crewmax slate met. and i would say the paint is thin my self. some one keyed my truck 2 months after i purchased it and now months later im finally going to get the whole side painted which is going to cost 1500 and it also includes removing a nice dent in the box side.

but as a detailer i also do rustproofing and undercoating which i know is very expensive from the dealership. the undercoating i would say is a must have if your around salty roads in the winter.. and we also do the paint sealents when the dealers say you won't ever have to wax your vehicle again HAA yeah right. i dont think it lasts for more than a year as i already done my truck 2 times in less than a year and it already needs waxing now. And The best thing for your paint before you wax it is to use a Claybar, normally they recommend to use this special spary to use with the claybar but thats not necessary u can just use a can of glass cleaner less expensive and works just as good. As i do over 70 cars a month with that, works great on older and newer cars just fine.

so to use a paint sealent on toyota paint is fine, but its a big waste of money from the dealership as i know just for a wax they charge over $200 so i recommend using a mothers wax or Meguiars tech NXT Generation wax or gold class which leaves your paint super smooth and a nice shine and it removes most fine swirl marks.
