Toyota Paint Problems

I have owned my black 08 Tundra for about 45 days, it has only been hand washed at the dealers 4 times, it has never been taken off the pavement and it has scratches all over it. I hauled some plastic bags of household insulation in the bed (think the bag was 20 lbs) and when I pulled them out they completely scratched the bed of the truck. Plastic scratches this truck! What the heck was Toyota thinking when they painted these? Oh and to boot, my truck has that protective sealant or whatever it was that they talked me into when I purchased it. I would sure like to know what the $700 protective sealant is protecting against.
Dealer is saying that it is because it is black and scratches show up better.
I have owned many vehicles and none have ever scratched like this.

I am with you I am still talking to the dealer, but they still have not admitted to a paint problem and I am not sure they ever will. I sent an email to Toyota Help and they contacted me a few days later. They had me go back and talk to the service manager, but he cannot do anything for me. He said his has scratches to, but would not admit it is a problem..... anyway, now I have an appointment with the Toyota rep in a couple of weeks. I will let you know if I get any where with him... I am not hoping for much though.....

The dealer pushes it off to Toyota (“they built the truck not us”) and they send then the all holy Toyota rep. Of cause there is only one rep which comes only once a month!
By then you drove at least twice to the dealer without the problem being taken care off! How many people have the time for such "run around games" and give up!

What I dislike most is when people who took quite a chunk of money form me, try to make me feel like I am unreasonable and the problems I have with my trucks are no big deal and kind of normal!

I agree.... they did that the first few times I went back to the sales staff. They look and talk to you as if you painted the truck. "It's not our problem... it's yours now" All that did is piss me off more.

im loving and hating my truck. i work at a shop that used to detail and i baby the crap out of my crew max. ive noticed the paint looking a little sorry lately while washing and drying. i just squint my eyes and pretend the wind blew something in em wheneveri notice something with the paint

I signed the petion, and I also opened a ticket with Toyota. I will keep you posted if they say anything usefull(I am sure it will be the same ole BS as the rest of you have gotten). I would like to know if anyone has tried any sorta wax that is made for black vehicles? I was told that that might help so that it isn't so noticable. If so, any sugestions on which brand and such?

I think there was something about black paint and wax on this thread... Clay Bar but there is some good information on wax and polish there.

having worked at a detail shop for 5yrs what we would do is buff w normal polish and a wool pad only if it needed it. but after that step hit it w a fine foam pad and there are special dark paint polishes(black beauty is what we used) that remove all the fine swirl marks left by the other pads. i only used clay when there was over spray or rail dust(from trains)or if there was a lot of bugs that our bug n tar remover(d-solve-wickedshit! turns slugs insideout faster than salt) couldnt get off. everything def shows in black but if ur on it like white on rice u can keep it clean and swirl free its just a pain. one of my good customers and friends has 2 black trucks and his shizas always perfect. if i c a single water drop i bust his balls.

I don't own a Tundra yet and this paint problem worries me. Can someone take some pics and put up? Maybe compare with everyone else?

I haven't had the paint issue yet. I did put a couple of scratches on the tailgate by Home Depot. I also have what you call sealant (TOYOGUARD) on my truck also.

Mick... I did mention TOYOGUARD to the service manager here... he just looked at me like I had two heads..... I dropped that in the conversation, since we were talking about getting the dealer rep appointment. Maybe next time... any word on the undercoating?

yeah I'm with you bro.........DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING TUNDRA TO CAR WASH!!!! I took it once and wont' do it again not that it did anything horrible, just think that the carwash people never maintain their tools, supplies, whatever they set out to wash vehicles....anyways about this Clay bar stuff, first time I've heard of it, seen a video on youtube about it....I'll give it a shot next weekend.......by the way the Clay bar method seems time consuming....does that clay bar actually cover the whole vehicle or do you have to use a couple at a time? please respond......thanks much!
