As far as scratches in the bed you won't go no where. I put a coat of that sealant wax on my truck and it did look funny going on but onced buffed off it has a gleaming shine now that it didn't before.

There seems to be a lot of brands out there... any one you liked the best? I hate trying 20 of them before I find one I like.

Exclamation

I'm currently doing a petition against Toyota regarding the paint problem, and will present it to them once we get enough signatures... 2 seconds of your time would be appreciated:

The Toyota rep.... did not help. It was a waste of time!! If an external source scratched or chipped the paint, Toyota does not see that as a warranty item. So do not drive it! Put it in a bubble so nothing happens to it. Buyers beware...

I dont know if this will help you out any but i checked the thickness of the paint on my 07 today. The paint on the hood of my truck was 3.75 mils thick. I also checked another truck which was an 05 tundra and the paint on it's hood was 4.5 mils thick. Both trucks are white.

Do what? Check the paint thickness? If that is what you want to know, you need a dry mil gauge I have 2 of them at work a digital and a more ancient model which is very acurate. You can purchase them just GOOGLE it.

I was hoping we would have a paint and body guy on here that may be able to shed a little light on how thick the paint should be.

Paint should be 4.5-5 mils thick as per this thread when I asked an internet manager about it. What I would like to know are how thick other work trucks are. One would think there should be a standard.

In my eyes, a spray in bed liner is some of th best money spent on a new truck.

But the question is: should you have to just to protect against minor scratches?

Thin Paint

Have been told it isn't the paint but the amount of layers of clear coat. I have owned a 94 & 99 Camry (Red & Black). Currently own a 91 4x4 and a 05 Tundra. Always waxed the camrys and the Tundra twice a year with Mequir's paste wax. Curious? Do you ever see a bright red toyota 10 years old that was shinny or really any that did not have hood or roof issues? I think all car manufactures today skimp somewhere!!!
