Question Sonar malfunction

I recently installed a Warn Powerplant wench on a Trans4mer mount with brush guards on my 2008 Tundra crewmax. The front parking sensors (sonar) are intermittently signaling on the front 2 corners. I assume the signal is being reflected off of the brush guards. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Sorry don't have it. I only have a reverse camera.

Yes, they'll do that if the brush guards or wench platform stick out farther than the bumper. You're getting bounce back from the ultrasonic transponder.

You're right. It sounds like it's bouncing off the guard. I'm not sure if there's a solution to that.

We had (It's actually still going on) an Ice storm here in the STL area. When i put my truck in reverse the back sensors would go off even when i wasn't near anything. Has anyone else had this problem?......maybe with snow or mud????????

I have had the same problem. I had ice over one of the sensors one time and then again with snow. Once I wiped off the sensor, it worked fine. I guess they are really sensitive.

Yes, depending on the severity and density of the precipitation, you can get reflection of the ultrasonic waves during a storm, although this is rare. Usually this is caused by snow or ice covering a transponder sensor.

Mine was going off the otherday and I didnt know why. It must have been ice on the sensor. I just turned it off. Last time i turned it on it was back to normal.

I'm sure you can as most of the accessories plug into the factory wiring harness somewhere. It would probably cost a fortune to have it done at the dealership. I don't know how much work would be involved for a self-install, but I can't imagine it would be much fun. But then I'm a gear-head myself, and would rather build an engine from the ground up rather than deal with the bad mojo associated with electrical systems.

Dealer quoted me approx 700.00 parts and labor to install the sonar system. The parts are roughly 400.00.
