White Tundra's

Check this out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm picking up my 07' White Tundra from the body shop today (because some imbecilic little man hit my bumper and bed area) and get this...

The painter tells me that my truck has no clear coat, just straight white paint! WTF? He said as he was working on it and sanding he immediately got white dust indicating no clear on the vehicle. (this guy has been in the business for ages) He said i'll have to take extra care of it and wax it all the time, but it will scratch and fade faster than paint with clear coat. Again WTF? This isn't a 1974 Datsun hatchback, don't all modern vehicles, especially one as pricey as a Tundra have clear coats on the paint?

Can this be true? Is my painter off his rocker? Too much paint fumes? Is Toyota being that cheap? Anybody with paint and bodywork experience familiar with this, please put your thoughts in...

No Mo Clear Coat!

Howzit Braddah Hawai'i,

Yes, the painter is right! There is no clear coat for the new Tundra. The reason for that is because the paint is a new type paint that won't fade or come dull real easy like before.

If you by touch up paint, you going notice that no mo clear coat to match. If you look at the paint code on the door area, it dosen't indicate a clear coat code. I did notice that the paint can chip kind of easy. I get this kit made by Langka that eliminates the BLOB when you touch up paint. Braddah, the thing work and work real good!

There are products I buy to keep the CrewMax protected. I use the Pinnacle cleaner and the BlackFire Wet Diamond sealant. For everyday use, I use the Poorboy's Spray Wash. Email me at bozu82@gmail.com so I can let you know who in Hawaii you can get it from.

For everyone else, you should try these product names. Ask your detailing supplier for Poor Boy, Pinnacle and Blackfire products.

What about the 'sealer' glaze that comes with your truck from Toyota...is it any good? My dealer gave me 5 bottles of this stuff, it looks like wax but doesn't smell like wax. Goes on pretty easy, leaves it looking shiny.

I took my truck in to have the hood repainted and asked the guy about the clear coat. He said that only certain colors have the clear coat. White and a couple of others didnt get one for some reason.

Toyota didn't use clear on the white trucks. At least not on My white '97 Land Cruiser and trucks of that era. The clear can yellow over time, from what I understand.
