Oil Oil Everywhere!
I went outside and started my truck to let it warm up. I go back outside about 10 minutes later and jump in the truck and notice the "4 low" light flashing (truck is in 4 high). I shut the truck off and get out and notice that there is a huge pile of black oil that leaked out of the truck. I pop the hood and pull out the oil dipstick and pressurized air blew out! The oil on the dipstick looked yellow.
I called Toyota and told them about the problem, they told me to call road side assisitance and they would have their tow truck out here ASAP. As I was writing this a buddy of mine who is a mechanic went out and looked the truck, he says it might be the front main seal. I know nothing about vehicle so I have no idea what the hell a front main seal is. Anyways, he said if it is the front main seal they may have to pull the engine and it'll take over a week. I'll keep you all posted. |

That sucks. Where do you live?
Taking from saying you let it run for 10 mins to warm it up its freezing there, temp could have made an o-ring or gasket shrink and the leak.

The yellow tells me you've got contamination from something like coolant, which could be caused by a blown head gasket or cracked block. This would also explained why the oil was pressurized and came blowing out at you... If you blew a head gasket you could be getting gases building up in your oil pan along with leaking coolant, or hot steam and coolant from a cracked block. Anyway you look at it, it doesn't sound good. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Okay, they towed the truck to the shop on Friday afternoon. Tow truck driver looked at it and said that it was probably the seal on the oil filter and that not enough oil had actually leaked out to cause any damage. (It sure looked like allot of oil to me)
They called me at about 1 PM Saturday to pick up the truck. I still do not know what the problem was as I didn't speak to the mechanic and the girl working at there had not spoken to him either. I have to call tomorrow to see exactly what happened. All I can say is that I am happy to have my truck back. |

I had a Mazda car that did that twice. A freeze plug in the head popped out and all the antifreeze went in the base and blew oil out the dipstick hole. Antifreeze is very nasty to get out. If its any consolation, I drove that Mazda 300,000 miles, so it must not have hurt much.
