Still, one side does not know what the other side does and they don't care either!

By the way, did you guys check your wheel bolts??

I will bring this lug nut with me to the trail.
By the way, today I met some other Tundra owner at the Lewiston gun show and I could see the rust under his fog lights and he didn't noticed it yet.
He got quite mad when he checked his rear bumper and it had rust there as well.
He will give on Monday Emerson Toyota (where he bought it) a visit and he said he'll not take that Toyota rep crap either!

What makes no sense to me is that you read on this forum that other people had their bumpers replaced with no problem then you have these few dealerships think they can push you around and not fix it.

It's actually Toyota how sets the stage with the requirement that a factory rep has to see any "body work" first!
But yes, there are better dealers how will take the extra step.

I'm glad you're showing restraint on this. Yeah I know the factory rep thing. The one I met accused me 3x for pulling down my headliner. Very frustrating. First time I saw red since I was a teenager.

Rust

It took 8 years for my 1st generation Tundra to rust through on the rear bumper. I live in the rust belt where lots of calcium chloride is spread on the roads each winter so I'm not totally surprised. I am surprised to see it happening on a brand new 2nd generation Tundra. Is Toyota using even lower quality metal now?
I'm ready to upgrade to an '08. Maybe I should wait for an '09 in hopes they get some of these issues squared away.

My first post. Great site.

My wife drove the truck once and I drove it the rest of the time. SO saying those words 3x to me is accusing me of pulling the headliner down. This rep pushed up the headliner with his hands and stated also "Nothing is wrong with this headliner." After arguing with him for 10 minutes he finally listened to what I said by "Why does the driver's door drop first? Well the truck is air tight and where you close the last door pushes air in which pushes up on this loose headliner then it drops. Well he did this 4x and opened the door on the 5th it fell. Well the rest was history. For all those die hard chevy owners this was the 3rd year making this truck. As you can see the headliner was a big issue till both tail lights fell off. The tail lights were a defect also like the headliner. Get This I brought it in to replace driver's side tail light and you would think Chevy would go ahead and fix the pass side knowing it was a defect nooo. They waited till the pass side fell off. I thought when I found out it was a defect that they would fix both sides the same time it was in. When the pass tail light fell I was extremely P/O. Also both lens were never replaced even though they were scuffed up pretty good. THey stated the light still worked and they won't replace it. So you can see the anger building up on this truck.
Then the brakes became an issue. So it was time to quit while I was ahead. Here's pic.

Well, I dropped by my dealer last night to ask them about these bumpers. As soon as I mentioned "rust", they knew exactly what I was about to say. They told me they were just talking about this problem among themselves that day with regards to some Tundras sitting on the lot that have rusty bumpers. They told me there definitely is a problem with them. They said they will submit a "failed product report" to Toyota. Once Toyota gets enough of these reports from the dealers, they usually issue a TSB or in some cases a recall.

So, they said they will find out if Toyota has indeed updated their bumpers and order me one in. They also are replacing all the lug nuts. My RAV4 has very similar looking lug nuts and there's not a hint of rust on them after 2 winters.

I'm glad things are going in the right direction. Keep us posted. Don't let down your guard.

Last week I called the number for Toyota Cust service from a post above. They called my local dealer, even though I didn't buy it there, and had their customer satisfaction person call me. We set up an appointment for Friday. The service advisor went straight to the leading edge of the passenger side and that was it. I had an appointment the next day to install the new bumper. They would have done it that day, but the two bumpers they had in stock were already spoken for.

Today they installed the new bumper. They promised it in two hours even though it's a 10 minute job. It took 6 hours. They did give me a loaner for the day, but I had to fight for it.

So Toyota knows about it and is doing the right thing, but the quality of service still sucks. They should have had the bumper ready to be installed with the first phone call, no making an appointment to look at it, then another to put it on. If I made an appointment it should have been done in a half hour, not all damn day. Not Toyota's fault. Toyota of Naperville's fault.

I have heard rumor that Ford made the camshafts that broke. I wonder who made the bumpers.

Any one look at their Toyota emblems that are mounted on the Center Covers for their tires. There is corrosion on all four on my truck.

Also, talked to the dealer about the rusting Lug Nuts... was told that it's just some thing that happens living in Wisconsin. I asked to see the Area Manager, about this issue. As i drove off the lot, I noticed there were ~7 2008 on lot that had the same issue.

Also, there is corrosion evident surrounding the toyota emblems that are mounted on the center covers

I haven't notice that on mine. I detail my rims every 5,000 miles when it comes up for rotation. I do a deep clean of the rim and polish it. You wouldn't believe to rotate 4 tires takes 3-4 hours.
