Back up camera

In bright sunlight the monitor on my back up camera has so much contrast that it is impossible to see my hitch. This is totally unsatisfactory for a $600 option (which came on the truck). I had a cheap, $100 back up camera from Wa Mart on my old Chevy 1500 which had both a brightness and contrast control which worked fine. But the Toyota version does not have these features and does not seem to have any kind of self adjusting circuit. Is anyone having the same problem? I wonder whether this is a design weakness or whether I just have a bad monitor.

Never had a problem with my back-up camera or monitor seeing my hitch. Other than my eyes being able to make things out on that tiny screen.

I do agree that for the money it ought to have a contrast and brightness control... For that matter it ought to get all the sports, Spike TV and the Playboy channels.

It also ought to flip down and swivel so I don't have to crane my neck, and have a switch so you can turn it on when not in reverse.

I purchased my camera from my dealer a few months after I purchased my truck. The new model does flip down and does have better contrast.
If you go to your dealer and let him know that you are not satisfied he might exchange your model to the new model.

Yeah, mine is the new model, so maybe that's why I don't have a problem seeing the hitch??? I bought it from a dealer website after I bought my truck and installed it myself.

It flips down, but it still doesn't swivel so you can turn it toward you.
