Metallic Ringing Sound in Tranny
I've got an '07 SR5 DC w/4.7, automatic and 4x4 w/TRD Pkg. The truck has 1050 miles on it. I've noticed that when first starting up in the garage, the minute I engage the shift into either forward or reverse I hear a dull metallic ringing sound coming out of the tranny. Shift back into neutral or park and the sound goes away. While underway, doing 30 to 40 MPH you can hear this sound as long as your foot is on the gas. Remove your foot from the pedal and the ringing goes away. I took the truck back to the dealer and he listened to my concern from outside the truck. He never got into the truck or took it for a ride. His reply was that it was just the mechanics of the metals engaging in the drivetrain and "don't worry about it, you've got 5 years and 60K warranty on drivetrain". That's total BS to me! My luck, the tranny will crap out at 61K and I'll own it, not Toyota. Anyone else out there notice this ringing sound?
Thanks, Joe G. |

I have an 07 SR5 double cab with the 5.7 L. I just started noticing that metal ringing problem as well in the last few days, but I only notice it when I'm back out of the garage. In addition, after I drive for short distances (less than 10 miles) at speeds averageing 45 mph, I get a ticking noise coming from the engine or exhause area (the overheating metal ticking sound). I'm scheduled to bring it in in two weeks after I get back from travel. It will not be a pretty scene if I get the "It's ok" response.
