Tailgate lock
I used the truck for hauling this weekend (pic's soon) and after the heavy haul my tailgate would not open.
I hauled a load of bricks (1840 lbs) and by the end of the day "BROKE". The handle un-latches one side but not the other.... a service trip in sight!! Just passing on info... PS.... The truck handle a 1840 payload weight with ease.. I did feel it though. |

does your tailgate handle work as smoothly as it used to? Mine was really easy at first. Tailgate broke, I put the rod back, and cable tied. Was hard to work the handle. Next time I went to the dealer, they replaced the clips and was easy to open again. Now the handle is hard to operate again. very frustrating.

no, mine doesn't work the same but I blamed it on dirt. Does anyone haul dirt? If you do you will notice that the dirt gets inside the tailgate and even after a good flush it flows for months! Which was one of my complaints on the complaint post..
It has to be an alignment issue somewhere. I haven't seen the inside. Does it look cheap? |

Those little plastic clips (purple and orange on my truck) are garbage. They should be redesigned in my opinion. My tie wrapped clips are working so far and tailgate is not hard to open (yet).
Keep us informed if there is a better solution. I know that a trip to the dealer will be a waste of time unless they come up with a service bulletin to replace the clips with something more robust.

I'm assuming one side is stuck? Take off the access cover and put the rod back on. The locking clip needs to be snapped back in place also. I think they have a new and improved replacement clip available.
