sukook86,

I agree that the ride is a bit stiff, but to call it a design flaw is a bit of an overstatement in my opinion.

Well yea, I do think there is a flaw in the suspension, and obviously I'm not alone here. If the spring rate is so great as to overcome the dampening ability of the shock, I think that's a problem. Homedawg, I see your into motorcycles, mostly off-road. I ride too mostly street/track, from KZ900's thru to a TL1000R with a lot track time thrown in. If we experienced this in our riding, would we not adjust the forks/shocks, pull the suspension apart, change springs/dampners, and/or whatever to get the ride that best suits our individual riding styles. Again, I'm not flaming Toyota, this is an amazing truck, but I do believe they may have missed something in the suspension (spring/shock rates). I just hope they find a quick, easy, and relatively painless (read $$$) solution to this.

This is weird but I heard it works well and you can load stuff on top.

It sure seems like a lot of the people with the TRD package don't like the ride. Maybe they should try some shocks that aren't so stiff

mismatched tire pressure in rear helps. as does a load.

i drove my new tundra from kansas city to houston with about 700# inj the bed. ride was brutal. bouncy harmonic. had my tiers down to 29# to help. didnt help almost traded when i got to houston. there i aired tires back up. ran out of time on the 75 cent air pump before i got the left rear. didnt feel like spending 75 cents for the one tire so i left it. loaded 500# more and drove to tucson.

bounce basically gone. still hard ride but very little harmonic bounce. 29# lr, 34# rr, 30# front.

apparently the mismatched pressure breaks up the harmonics.

ran over speed bumps with one rear tire and it bounces like theres no shock back there.

Terrible bounce on sout CA 86. I tried 150lbs(3 bags of gravel 50lbs) and it got better, I will try more lbs and test it. This is a Toyota problem design, I have friends that have other brand trucks and none of the bounce like my new Tundra 07, they still bounce, but very minimal. Dealer should give gravel bags when you get a new truck. Toyota listen up to your loyal customers, we are having issues with the bouncy harmonic problem and is not going to help Tundra sells.

This truck ride as bad as my nissan did in most cases, worste in others. But I bought it for the power. Might not replace it with another unless I get a great deal again. Ford and Chevy both ride far better in the half ton configuration. Hit the gas though and blah how boring. Not that way in the Yota. Happy with the truck glad I got it for my 3 yr lease and didnt buy it.

Unhappy The bounce

People who try to defend Toyota for the real flaw in the suspension system, apparently don't drive concrete freeways with expansion joints cut in them at reqular intervals as we have in Calif. There is a severe resonant frequency effect that occurs at common freeway speeds that causes a severe bounce in the whole truck. This is not just a hard ride, it's a real problem appartently associated with this type of road and at freeway speeds.

i have the severe bed bounce too. A lot more than the, "its just a truck" bounce that other people say. My water bottle would jump out of my cupholder and it would bounce so bad that I would actually have a headache. I know this is due to the concrete freeways and the unweighted bed for a truck with a high payload capacity. But I have been in other trucks and the bounce is no where near the tundra. I called and complained directly to toyota and received a formal complaint file number. Basically got the generic response of toyota is aware of the problem and we will contact you if a TSA is generated. I am going to install a set of Supersrings in the near future but have been using the WillyBar instead of a water bladder/sandbags. It has worked so far and has lessened the bounce to wear the ride is more tolerable.

The reason this subject died in Sept of 07, is there are threads that found fixes for the bounce. ie. Super Springs. I am looking into gtting SS for my truck soon. Here is a link, you will find a lot of good information reguarding bed bounce. Good luck.

Gee, I just took some friends for a ride in my new Tundra, and they couldn't believe how nice the ride was.

I notice that you're in Virginia...You probably don't have concrete freeways with the expansion joints cut a regular intervals as we do out in Calif. The truck is really nice riding on asphalt, city streets, and at speeds well away from freeway speeds, even on concrete hwys. I was really pleased with my new 08 4X2 SR5 until I took it up the I15. Then wow, I thought the thing was going to bounce my guts out. The big proplem seems to be one of resonant frequencies being set up by travel over this type of hwy. My local Toyota service manager assured me that Toyota is aware of the problem is working on a "fix". I won't hold my breath. I think that some type of after market device will end up having to be used to add a slight preload to the spings (or something) to get rid of this really dangerous condition.

I'm from Florida we have both. Like MX hauler I have the same ride. I'm sure the "DOT" of every state has there way of doing concrete highways. This is probably why California and some other states has so many problems. The closest I can come to this issue is crossing the Dames Point Bridge crossing the St. Johns River. On the southside of bridge on both north and south bound lanes if you do 70 or better you have this front end bouncing. This happened on my 97 Thunderbird the bounce was moderate, 98 Silverado which the bounce was moderate, 03 F-150 which the bounce was crazy like no shocks at all, 03 Crown Victoria was moderate, 06 Silverado the bounce was like no shocks or springs. It was like doing hydraulics on the front end. 07 Prius was no evidence of it, and my 07 Crewmax was slight but very stiff on that section. If I was to do 60 or 65 the bounce would almost be gone on all vehicles except F-150 and 06 Silverado would be moderate bounce. So I can't argue about it yet. I can't take either side so I guess I'm out to lunch on this. I'm sorry but this is what I have.
