Tundra Salesmen?
What is it with the Tundra salesmen? I have been trying to buy a 07 Tundra, SR5, Double Cab, since early April. After going to five dealerships and talking to seven salesmen, I have not gotten the same story twice as far as configurations and price for this vehicle. You would think you were in a Ford, GMC, or Chrysler dealership with the total lack of knowledge on the product they are selling.
Some of the issues are: • One dealership said to get the TRD package on a SR5 you have to get the bucket seats. Others said no. • Another dealership said to get the XM radio option I had to get the high end radio. Others said no. • Another dealer told me it was very difficult to get the XM option. • Another dealer told me it was almost impossible to get the rear under seat storage option. • Most of the dealerships told me it was my problem to work with the service department to get the dealer installed options. Seems that the sales and service departments don’t work together. • They all are telling me to buy the 100K extended warranty. I was buying a Toyota because I expected it to not fall apart after 36K miles like Ford, GMC and Chrysler. • I was told I couldn’t be given a firm price on a Tundra that had to be ordered because Toyota might drop dealer incentives by the time the truck was delivered. • A friend gave me a name of a Toyota dealer he liked working with. I talked with two people there ten days ago and still haven’t gotten a response. This is only a partial list of the issues that I have been trying to sort out. It would be nice to know if I order something what it will really have on it and what the price is. Looking at some of the other postings that have been made, I get the impression there are others with similar issues. It will be difficult for Toyota to meet there 200K sales projections if they make it this difficult to get the truck you want. Time to stop by the Chevy dealer and see if they have a clue. Anyone got a good Toyota dealership in the Northeast (Connecticut)? |

I can not say if it is true or not, concerning your question about the xm stereo option. But I do know that any dealership can install the xm option, as it is an Toyota accessory. It is easy to get the under seat storage as it is a Toyota accessory, but only if you do not have the jbl stereo. If you have the jbl stereo, you cannot get the under seat storage. The jbl's amp is located under the rear seat. If you do order a truck, they can not tell you what incentives it will have offered by Toyota when you sign your paper work. They can tell you the price you will pay over invoice, not including the incentives. If a dealer is not calling you back, as for the sales manager at the dealer and talk to him and explain your disappointment and or call tms in Torrance California and tell them your disappointment. Hope this helps you out a little? |

I went to the official Toyota.com website and configured the Tundra I wanted. It came to $34,400. The 1st dealership I went to gave me a price (scratched on paper) that was $36,900. I ran! Went to Toyota West and the GM printed off the build sheet on a Tundra that he was getting (configured exactly as I wanted) and it was $34,400. I got it for $33,100. We had a handshake deal in 15 min. of me pulling on the lot. Had the truck in 8 days. Don't give up! Always go with your 1st instinct...and that's telling you to get a Tundra....you'll regret "settling" for a Chevy. But it's your money. Do your own configuring on the website and be armed with the price before you go.

You can go to the toyota website to configure the vehicle that you want. Just a suggestion, you could put the zip code as 79901. That will give you a complete and separate list of options. NOT packages. It will tell you if some option requrie other options, or if it is offered that as "packages" for our "convience" (read--increase the price). I ordered my directly with those options without PACKAGES, and my dealer (internet sales specalist) ordered my exact options that I requested.
For example, I wanted the TRD WITHOUT the sunroof, which is always included with the package. They ordered from the factory exactly what I wanted down the color and other options. Hope this helps. I don't know if you can order a 07 anymore though. |

I spent 2-3 weeks looking for mine, called NC, CA, OR and all over Washington trying to find a limited CM 5.7 with TRD for 38000 out the door or a sr5 with upgraded stereo, trd and alarm. I about gave up as no one could or would offer me the truck at that price out the door. Was looking at a Chevy avalanche and decided to make one last call to Foothills toyota and told Coby my delima and said if he could find me a truck with those options I will pay cash today. He called back about an hour later with a 07 SR5 CM 5.7 with FE,MG, SR, CK, OF, TW, EC PN, Z1, EJ, RL, E5, BU, R9
38000.00 out the door (remember we have around 3300 in taxes in WA) This truck has every option as the limited except for leather, auto adjust for passenger heat and the white gauges. Also during this journey I went to a few different dealerships all promising they could work me into a truck if I came down to there lots, what a waste of time. I do recommend the truck but believe Toyota needs to do something about thier customer service. Not returning calls, salesman not having proper information on vehicles, I knew more than 95% of the salesman did about the tundra just be reading thru these forums. BTW added a few parts since such as: Volant cold air intake, Westin Bars Bed Rug A.R.E. LSII Pre ordered Volant exhaust

I went to a dealership and ordered my truck exactly the way I wanted it and got it in 4 days. I went in with an educated knowledge of price's and options and as usual i knew more of the trucks than the salesman. Got the deal i wanted and havent had any regrets of getting another toyota(fourth one).

Sounds to me like most of you guys do not know how to get the best deal buying a car. I have bought over 30 carsin my days. I may have a problem keeping cars for long, but over the years I have learned how to get the best deal. I suggest anyone looking to buy a car read all the info at CarBuyingTips.com new car buying guide, avoiding dealer scams, new cars, used car buying and also use the resources at

Well Teambetbev- It's my money..I'll buy and spend whatever I want, you can go buy your 31st vehicle and do with it whatever you want. Maybe I didn't get the deal that you and your vast knowledge and experience can get, but I'm happy with it and it's in my driveway right now. Some (not all) salesmen are like getting legal advice from an attorney....they'll all give you a different story. We're not all rookies at this shit, and it ain't brain surgery. But- Those are great resources to use so you don't get ripped off.

I think your best bet is to go get a Tundra options manual and highlight everything you want and custom order one. You have been waiting for a while so I doubt a few weeks would hurt anymore. If they tell you they can't do something talk to a regional or headquarters Toyota office.

I think you said it all when you reported your experience with salesmen. What a bunch of........ When I was a kid, I'd go to the dealership with my dad when it came time for a new ride, he treated the sales folks like a POS, of course I was embarrased at the time, however I learned well, and never put up with any sheit from these clowns. Bought an FJ last summer (Tundra soon), BOZO didn't even know how to engage the 4wd, completely clueless about his product.
