Misc Problems, Have You Noticed This?

I have a 07 5.7 DC LTD/TRD W/ TRD Dual Exhaust...

1. Center Console Lid Keeps Randomly Popping Open (Yes Even On Smooth Roads)

2. Manual Lock On Steering Column Randomly Pops Loose Leaving The Wheel Telescoping And Dropping Without Warning.

3. Factory Bed Liner Not A Great Fit, Floats From Side To Side, Makes It Tricky To Walk In The Bed Without It Sliding Around.

4. Transmission Not Shifting At The Right Time And When It Finally Does It Makes A Heavy Thud & Vibration, This Happens In
Either Auto Or Suqential Mode, Periodically from a dead stop when I first accellerate it Waits To Kick In And Then Hits Hard.

I Have Had Transmissions Go Bad On Me In The Past And This Feels Like It's Going Bad Real Quick.

Annoying... Yes!! But It Is A Toyota And They Will Take Care Of It, I Am Just Curious If Anyone Else Is Having Similiar Troubles?

1)someone posted on another board they had the center console pop open. I tried to figure out how that would happen, but could not and seeing I drive with my elbow on the center console, it would not open up on mine.

3) I have the factory bedliner with rails and it seems to fit very well. Hard to say if it would fit as bad as yours does without the rails?

4) transmission is very smooth and I let it shift where it wants to shift.

have to taken it to a dealer or are you just dealing with all of these?

It goes in Tuesday, They Have No Idea How Long They Will Have It, According To The Tech I May Loose It For Several Weeks While Waiting For A Transmission, The Other Problems Are Probably Quick Fixes... As For The Bedliner I Do Have The Rails ( Side Rails ) But The Bottom Slides A lot.

That would be the first tranny problem I've heard of.. Maybe just the ecu needs to be reflashed. The computer may have the shift points screwed up..

Quick follow up for those interested:

The center console was replaced, the old one was the first reported problem so far so they sent it back to the factory to find out what failed!

The tilt wheel lock was a simple fix, I am not sure what they did but it now locks tight and feels secure.

Bedliner floating issue is the nature of the beast, I have found a bedliner base mat that you simply slip between the bed and the liner that prevents it from sliding around at all.

Transmission issues must have been something quick, I am assuming they reprogrammed the shift points or reflashed the ECU because it seems fine now, Whatever they did made a big difference in fuel economy, I went from 13-14 on the Hgw to 18-19 (Nice) I do Know they flew a guy out from California to Washington to take a look at the Transmission, I guess these things are still so new thay want to be sure there are no suprises coming.

They only had it for 4 days and it appears everything taken care of, The 4 days probably would have been less but I live an hour away from my dealer and decided to have them keep it until the new console came in rather than picking it up Wed and bring it back today.

I decided on Toyota for 1 ( obviously the truck ) and 2, If/When you ever have a problem they take it serious, these guys were all over this immedialty, offered me rental cars, rides, etc... And called me daily to let me know how things were progressing and when it should be done.

It's not always the problems you have with new cars/trucks that decides future purchases it is how well there handled, These guys amazed me!

However doubtfull it might be that many of you end up in a service department with your new Tundra, But If so I hope you find the experience to be as smooth and easy as mine.

It's is also very nice to have this forum available, I have learned a-lot of interesting things in the past week or so.. Thanks.

If they did flash your ECU and that produced improved fuel economy.....would you please monitor and post the RPM shift points that you are now at. This could be a key factor to helping me improve fuel efficiency in the future....aside from not stopping the pedal into the floor pan.

This was the major difference for me. I have been given the run around, the rollin of the eyes, the Ho-Hum approach so many times by GM and Dodge dealers......It will never happen again!

That is good news. Did you send a thank you note to the dealer and one to the national office? I'm sure they would love to see how happy you are with service. I only hope if I have to take it in I get the same service. I agree about this site as well, great info form people who really care about products and ideas.

I pretty much lit up after reading about your experience at the toyota dealership. I own this toyota because my 04 GMC Yukon XL Denali was never fixed right.

it went to the dealership at 16k for front end grinding, i had to beg for a rental and they kept it for a week. after 600miles of driving, the grinding came back. after 10 visits over 18k miles, they finally replaced all the parts in the front end. meanwhile, ive had about 1k in rental bills.

when i got it back, the electrical system was having an issues and the truck wouldnt start half the time, dead battery.

i paid the $84 diag charge, dealer said nothing was wrong. it continued to fail to start.

i dropped it off at toyota and bought a tundra. i love it so far

On my new 4x4 my gas light turned on and stays on even though my gas cap is on tight. I also feel the odd shifting during acceleration.

I have the plastic bedliner and have noticed it is rubbing off the paint from the bed. Had the tailgate down and right at the end of the bedliner it is rubbing on the side walls of the bed!! Think I'll switch to a spray in liner!!
