Right Toyota, Scottsdale AZ Cash Back Incentive Scam?
Watch out for shady deals at Right Toyota in Scottsdale AZ.
On Monday October 5th I was quoted a purchase price of $34,833
On Tuesday October 6th (the following day) Toyota Corporation released their $1,000 Cash Back Incentive on the 2010 Tundra at which time I confirmed with both Joe Mallo and Jerry Sees at Right Toyota that I could take advantage of this cash back incentive.
On Saturday October 10th I arrived to pick up my new truck and immediately noticed that the purchase agreement looked off. In fact the purchase price was listed at MSRP rather than the quoted price of $34,833. This should have been my first indication that something “shady” was going down. I immediately mentioned the discrepancy with Brad Pringle the Finance Manager and he informed me that he would correct the price to the originally quoted $34,833. Later that evening when I got home I noticed that the price on my purchase agreement was still off by $1,000, set at $35,833 instead of $34,833. I immediately contacted Mr. Pringle, Jerry Sees and Joe Mallo.
**This is when the run-around started… For the following week and a half I attempted to correct this to no avail. If and when I could get through to talk to one of the aforementioned employees at Right Toyota I got the complete runaround. “Call back tomorrow at 10am and we will straighten this out”; “I can’t change the price but Jerry can, he’s not in today”; “I will have to get approval from my GM and he’s out today, I’ll have him call you tomorrow” The best was when I would call and they would act as if they had no clue what I was talking about or what my problem was. I was asked to forward any emails I had with the quoted price etc. which I did and never got a response…
On October 21st I received a voicemail from Jerry Sees stating that his General Manager, Zach Ivanhoe, was “not going to do anything about this, it was a done deal and at the bank already”. Hmm, I called the day after I left Right Toyota and some how this never got addressed with the GM until the 21st? 11 days after?? Is it my fault that this was “already at the bank”?
Bottom line, Right Toyota pocketed the $1,000 cash incentive from Toyota Corporate that should have been passed down to the customer.
I would say it was a pretty shady deal by the dealership but I would also think you should have payed more attention before signing a legal contract. Thats why we call them stealerships. I always look at the contract and dollar amount before I sign anything. These pricks will rip you off blind if you let them.
I'm definitely at fault for not throughly reading the fine print but I don't know if you guys have seen these agreements, it's very difficult to figure out where the quoted purchase price is. Plus I was going on 3 hours of sleep when I arrived at the dealership from my early morning flight from Colorado yet even when I throughly looked over the agreement later the next day I had to call Right Toyota and ask the finance manager to walk me through it because it still didn't make any sense and honestly he seemed a bit confused...
I filed an official complaint with Toyota Corp, we'll see if that goes anywhere. Otherwise, I LOVE the truck and look forward to learning more about it on this site.

The plot thickens... I finally got a chance to have my bitch session with the General Manager at Right Toyota and this is what he told me - basically I was charged for the delivery fee of the truck which came from another State AND the window tinting which was added to the Truck by Right Toyota. Funny thing is that I have emails to prove this to be wrong including one that says "I'll throw in free window tinting if you buy from us" Somehow transport of a vehicle and window tinting magically adds up to $1,000.
I went round and round with this guy and explained to him that his reasoning was illogical and downright fraudulent. What a waste of time.
My conversatoin was with William Fakhoury the General Sales Manager. I explained to him that the purchase price was raised by $1,000 last minute to negate the Toyota Incentive and provided dates, times and names. His stance was that his dealership transported the truck from New Mexico to AZ and the cost was passed along to me. I was never informed of this and was lead to believe that the price quoted $34,833 was the purchase price regardless of where the vehicle came from. I asked him why I would pay for transport across State Lines on top of the quoted price and not be told of this at any point? He said that if he has to pay for this then he can pass the charge along to the customer yet he did not have a number of how much this cost to give me. He also told me that the window tinting added to the truck was $295 which was also passed along to me yet hidden in the price (none of these charges were line items).
Here is the original email from Joe Mallo regarding the window tinting being free -

...What if I through window tint in for free??
That's one of the reasons why I do the "Internet" deal. No haggle, the numbers are known. But you still have to read the shit outta the paperwork. Stealership.......so appropriate

That sucks, file a complaint with the better business bureau. Maybe create blog or web page (righttoyotasucks.com) anything to make the local public aware of what they are doing. You may not get your money back, but I may make you feel better.

Sadly, this was an "Internet" deal which is why the added charges were absurd Lesson learned the hard way, although Toyota Corp told me that I would be hearing from their on site public relations rep at Right Toyota within 3 biz days, I'll keep you posted. For what it's worth, here was my last email to the GM at Right Toyota after my conversation with him -
Thank you for discussing the purchase agreement descrepancy with me today. I'm still a bit baffled by the fact that neither Jerry Sees, Joe Mallo or Brad Pringle could provide me with this same information over the course of the past 2 weeks. I called them on a daily basis and clearly laid out my concern multiple times over the phone and on email and was never once informed that there were hidden fees for Transporting the Vehicle to your dealership AND a charge for the "Free" window tinting (see Joe's email below stating that this was free). Additionaly I was told by both Jerry Sees and Brad Pringle that the Clear Bra was $395 NOT $500.
As you can see from my perspective the purchase price was uplifted by $1,000 exactly which would negate the Cash Back Incentive -
$34,833 Quoted Price
+ $395 Clear Bra
=
$35,228 (The Purchase Price on the Agreement Stock NO. 00012619 is $36,228)
Based on derived numbers from what you informed me today, the purchase price is broken here:
$34,833 Quoted Price
+ $705 Transportation Fee
+ $295 Window Tinting
+ $395 Clear Bra
= $36,228
*The numbers in red above equate to $1,000. These additional fees were never communicated to me nor agreed upon. If you have record of this please provide it to me.
As stated over the phone conversation I had with you today, I was never informed of an additional cost to transport the vehicle from New Mexico to Arizona and would not have agreed to pay this fee if I knew about it before hand. Why would I fly to Arizona to pick up a truck that was transported from Alamagordo New Mexico and pay an additional $705 fee? This should have been clearly stated up front by Joe Mallo or Jerry Sees during the negotiations and/or mentioned to me during my meeting with Brad Pringle.
And finally you mentioned a $295 charge for window tinting that I did not ask for but was informed by Joe Mallo that this was free (see email below).

Dacian,
I understand. When it's all said and done go with the truck you want. 1000 gets waisted doing anything. Get the truck you want. Remember this truck is exactly equiped the way you want. Everytime I get something that is cheaper in price I always regret that I didn't get what I want. What if I through window tint in for free??
I have reported this to Toyota Corporate, I hope that you take action to rectify this and clear this up with Joe Mallo, Jerry Sees and Brad Pringle.

Wow... his use of the English language and shady car sales speak of "Everytime I get something that is cheaper in price I always regret that I didn't get what I want" - hahahahaha - in that case get an Aston Martin Mr Mallo, get an Aston...
