2000 Tundra, Turn key sometimes it starts, sometimes a 1 or 2 second delay then starts, sometimes nothing at all. The battery is charged and when it starts it everything sounds normal. When it does not start you can hear the relay click in the fuse box under hood and hear the fuel pump run. Anybody got any ideas. This is an intermittant problem and the Toyota guys said if it ain't broke we can't fix it and it never happens when near a mechanic, mostly on cold start but not always.
Thanks for the replies. Connections are tight and battery charged. It seems to be like some sort of relay or sensor that is not letting juice get to the starter solenoid. Does anyone know where to get a starter circuit wiring diagram?
Don't know if this helps but we have an 04 4runner that had a similar problem. One day it just wouldn't start and then it would and then it wouldn't at random times with no special circumstances.
We finally tracked it down the alarm module which prevents the engine from starting without the correct key. We had it replaced under warranty and two years later, it started the exact same problem again. This time, they pulled the module and installed the original factory (non-alarm) version which had been in my glove box all these years. It took two seconds. Its been fine ever since.
