Gas pedal issue

I'm having alot of trouble with my gas pedal on my 07 /5.7 /SR5. I had the recall and shim installed on my truck awhile ago, but now my truck is very jerky when it starts. It spins the tires on take off all the time and my wife is getting sick of it. She is constantly jawing in my ear now about it when she rides with me.

I tell her it's not me and I press the pedal slowly, but it seems like it is not a fluid/gradual acceleration. The only time it is smooth on take off is when I'm towing my camper.

Any thoughts or fixes because the dealer said they already put a shim on the pedal and there is nothing more they can do ???????

Request a new pedal instead of the shim.
That is what I did with mine.

My pedal was the same way when I bought my truck. I replaced it with a brand new one. Much, much better!

They can replace the throttle with the updated one. Many here had it done after the shim recall and was done free. I took my shim out, it had the friction coefficient of wet ice with it in. Someday I'll ask the Stealership to put the new throttle in, or I'll just buy a 2014...

My dealership told me they were authorized to replace the pedal for free if the customer complained about the shim. I had the pedal shim done, and the new pedal installed, in the same appointment. It never left the mechanic.
They had to do the shim before they we authorized to change the pedal, but I didn't see it.
Take it back, get the improved pedal.

I ordered the new pedal (04000-0440c) and installed it myself. First couple of days I thought it was much, much better, now I think it's just better. Oddly enough, my new pedal is very similar to my old pedal (see pic, old pedal on left and note difference in pedals near the bottom lip where the foot comes in contact with pedal) but the numbers imprinted on the side are different (78110-0c011 on the old versus 78110-0c0112 on the new). Maybe the pedal processes the pressure differently and sends a slightly different/smoother signal to the computer? Don't know for certain but it has seemed to help with smoother accelerations, particularly on my bumpy subdivision entryway.

Upon your very quick advice I hopped in my truck and took it to my dealer.

The service manager was telling me that there has never been a problem before with any other truck and I was the only one that had a problem with the jerky gas pedal. He was going to charge me for the pedal and the labor to install it.

He was being really snotty about it so I pulled out my phone and showed him this thread and I told him not BS me because I just asked fellow Tundra owners and they seemed to know excactly what I was talking about.

A few minutes later he returned to the waiting area and told me to bring my truck back in first thing in the morning and they will install the new pedal at no charge to me.

Thank you Tundra members for saving me from a wallet beating.

I requested and received the new pedal with no questions asked. I had a similar situation with mine.

Good for you...The shim they installed on my 08 was nuts...I was giving myself whiplash every time I hit a bump. I learned here that I should request a new pedal and it was WAY better.

That's the thing about the shim recall. I believe most Techs just threw the thickest shim in and called it a day, every shim I have seen (4) were the thickest. Admittedly I have no proof that the thinnest shim would have been any better for the whiplash effect.

Glad they got it replaced without charging you. Replacing the pedal was the second part of the recall if they shim didn't work properly.

I did the same as ponyuk and had the shim and replacement pedal done all in one visit. They have to do the shim first for the recall.

My 07 is pretty herky at the start - but I've mainly ignored the gas pedal shim recall. This thread has motivated me to ask my dealership for a new gas pedal.
