I noticed that the original pedal would kind of stick just a little. I could be on the highway and get it to stick in one spot (with pressure from my foot) and it's like a cruise control. The new one is very smooth and I can't do that anymore.
Do not mention his name here. He spits on us and talks crap and you're directing people to him from our site? I don't think so. I know you're neutral and that's fine, but please do not mention him here.

I just bought a 2007 regular cab, thought this thing just had that much more power than my other cars (02 explorer and 97 4runner). If I just show up at any Toyota dealer will they try the shim/install a new pedal if I am not the original owner and do not have the warranty paper?

Congrats on the purchase of a Tundra !!!!!!
I'm sure if you called your dealer with your VIN # they should be able to tell you if it has been done or not. If your dealer can't get the info, definitely Toyota themselfs will know.
My 07 is pretty herky at the start - but I've mainly ignored the gas pedal shim recall. This thread has motivated me to ask my dealership for a new gas pedal.
I just replaced mine about a month ago,, Wish i would have done it sooner, such a big difference..took about 10 minutes total to do it., Gonna send the bill to Toyota to see if they'll reimburse me..
The dealer refused to just replace the pedal right away so I told him to get F'd... Have bought two other cars from a different dealer because of this.
I think the shim and thrashing the carpet padding in the truck is bullshit, that's why I never took it in.

never had it done on my 2007 or 2010, shim nor new gas pedal. Each time in they recommended new pedal free of charge and I denied but they put that I denied recall on the paperwork just in case to cover their keester. I didn't see a need so skipped it each time in. The more a dealer does to your truck the more problems they create in my experience. If it ain't broke, do NOT fix it is my motto for sure.

I bought the redesigned pedal so I'll see if it makes a difference when I install it. My 08 has been sensitive since I got it used, and the pedal has been hacked. Ive gotten used to it, but it still doesnt feel "right". It'll be much easier to do myself than take it to the dealer.
I received my pedal yesterday afternoon. I got a chance this morning to install it and take it for a test drive. Holy mother of baby Jesus! What a NIGHT AND FAY DIFFERENCE! We will see what kind of gas mileage difference I'll be getting. I've been averaging 14.4mpg with the hacked one

I noticed a .6MPG improvement with the new pedal. I know that doesn't seem incredible at first but I only drive about 12 miles a day and the speed limit only goes up to 50 mph for about two of those miles. My point is that even though my truck barely warms up before I have to shut her down and I'm not putting highway miles on her, I am now getting ~5% better gas mileage.

I just want to say many thanks to toyturbodiesel for his posting of the gas pedal letter. I emailed it to my local Toyota dealer then spoke to them and they said they understood the issue and will take care of it for me. Now we'll see how long it takes!
