Brand new 2012 Tundra keeps getting check engine light going into limp mode
4 times in the last 3 days my truck has thrown a P2445 code and gone into limp mode.
This is a brand new 2012 Rock Warrior with 3,400 miles.
First time it happened I was road trippin through Omaha headed back to Denver. Had it towed to Old Mill Toyota in Omaha and they tested all the air injection systems and said all was well. Reset the code and I was on my way.
Next morning when I went to leave town it was in limp mode again. I disconnected the battery for 30 seconds, cleared the code and drove 7 hours back to Denver with no trouble.
This morning took my daughter to school and went to the gym, all was fine. Left the gym to run errands and back in limp mode.
Having it towed AGAIN to dealership I purchased it from.
This is frustrating and embarrassing. It's hard to brag about your bad-ass truck when it's been towed twice with less than 5k miles on it. I bought a Toyota because of the reliability, what's up with this? I put over 150k on my 98 Dodge and it NEVER broke down or needed towed.
Feeling let down.
Anyone seen this before or can offer any help or advice?

Some times bad parts make there way into brand new vehicles. I wouldn't let it bug you to much. If all hello breaks loose then maybe try to force them into buying it back so you can get into a new one that isn't effed up from the start. Hopefully this will be the fix it needed and then smooth sailing for ya

I understand, just been a pretty big pain having it towed twice over a holiday weekend where I was supposed to be enjoying myself.
I just hope this is a real fix and not grabbing at straws. I don't know much about the dealership in Omaha, but I have nothing but good things to say Mountain States Toyota, I know they will make it right.

doghart,
I was just wondering what was the weather conditions when:
1)"First time it happened I was road trippin through Omaha headed back to Denver"
and
2)"...Left the gym to run errands and back in limp mode."

Was it by chance freezing/snowing?? I've been seeing different threads about moisture build up in the newly redesigned 11-12 AIPs are causing issues like yours.. when the weather is freezing/snowing..?

It was below freezing around 7am when it first happened in Omaha. It had sat all night in a garage after the 7 hour drive.
Second time it started fine after sitting all night. 2 very short drives (less than a mile each), then sat for 90 minutes while I was at the gym. It was probably around 40 degrees at 9:30am.
Sounds like it may be a common issue??

What I remember reading on some thread last year at this Cold Time in Canada was that there was a dealer that had several new Tundras with AIP issues. If I have my story right, the 07-10 models have the same AIP with their issues so a 10yr, 150K mile extended warrantee covers 07-10. The 11-12's do Not have that warrantee because the AIP was "redesigned".. you know to be better and have no issues right? Well the issues in the Canada Tundras were that it kept the moisture out, but there was still moisture in the pipes which froze in the freezing weather! The only cure at that time "was to wait for the Winter to END!".. I never saw anything after that. Please continue to chime in to share how you got through this...?

Dealer called today and the parts are nationally on back order until Dec. 17th.
Going to dealer to get a loaner/rental tomorrow. Wonder if Toyota will pay my monthly payment sine I'll be without a truck for over 3 weeks... ??? lol!

I thought the aip only came on when ambient temps were like 70 or higher? Wasn't there a bypass mod on tundra solutions that tricks computer into thinking it didn't need to run aip by lowering temp reading?
Does it run in freezing temps? I have a 12 too and it is on my mind every time I turn the key. Hope the dealer gets it squared away for ya!!!!
I'm pretty sure limp mode is caused by the valves becoming sticky and sticking open, not by the pump going bad, pump alone will cause check engine light but no limp,I would make sure to ask about the valves in this system!!!

I wouldn't do the bypass on a new truck. Once mine is out of warranty I will do it if the issue arises.
It has to a pretty big issue since they extended the warranty. I would certainly get a little more insistent with Toyota. There must be a time limit on repairs. Perhaps it is time they get you into a new truck.
My brand new 2012 CM Tundra TRD Off Road had the same issue.
I actually heard a loud whirling noise while driving the truck home from my brother in laws on Friday night, I pulled over and shut the truck off and I could hear what sounded like a fan slowing down and shutting off.
I then drove the truck on Saturday with no issues, and then went to start the truck Sunday morning, CEL on and truck in LIMP mode.
I called the dealer near by and took it down to them this morning, I explicitly stated I did not want them to just flash the ECU and I wanted the issue investigated.
They called me 6 hours later, tell me the truck is done and all they had to do was flash the ECU.
When I got down there I argued again that this is a major issue with these trucks and I didn't want them to just flash away the problem. I explained that next week is Christmas and I'm taking my family to the mountains for a ski trip, what happens if this issue occurs again when I'm 6 hours away from town. Their answer "Toyota Roadside assistance"
I took the truck and drove it around for about an hour, then shut the truck off, loud whirling noise again, started and shut the truck off multiple times and about 75% of the time the noise is there upon shut down of the truck.
I recorded the noise on my phone to show the dealership, then I called them back. The lady explained to me again that on 2012's they flash the ECU and it fixes the problem.
Next call will be to Toyota Canada first thing in the morning, I don't trust the truck now and I'm scared to take it anywhere, I know its going to fail again.
I never heard that whirling sound ever until Friday night and it failed 2 days later.
Code the ECU threw was P2445 AIP Valve Stuck
The worst part is that they are arguing with me at the dealership that this isn't an issue with 2012's and that Toyota fixed it, I will be pointing them to this site tomorrow.
