Route to go for Upgrading?
Alright, so its been about 3 years since ive been in the mod scene, since before my tundra i had a Mercedes ((Great car, but didnt work here in MT and there are hardly any upgrades for it)) and now im overwhelmed and somewhat lost where to start.
Im thinking I want to go all TRD for performance ((CAI, Exhaust, Sway Bar, Big Brakes, and eventually Supercharger!)) for visual, i dont want to mess with the truck that much because its already beautiful, but I was thinking of blackout head/tail lights, and thats that. Audio/Visual I plan on keeping the stock setup, but adding a JL Audio TW5 under the rear seat, and adding a custom monitor mod where the second glove box is. And for random, I plan on getting weathertech mats, and possibly a bed toolbox/tonneau cover. Now, the questions. 1. First, Where should i start?!?! 2. Will the Big Brake Kit work with the TRD 17in wheels? 3. Having the TRD off road suspension already, is the TRD Performance suspension that much of an upgrade? 4. Will the TRD Brake pads work with the TRD big brakes? 5. Would it be better performance wise to forget about TRD and go with other manufacturers? If so, who and why? ((I wanted to stick with TRD since its covered under my 7 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Yes, my dealership rocks ^.^) 6. And last one, are getting different headers much of an improvement since the stock ones are already so great? if so, which ones? Thanks for your time all. V

i would hold off on a big brake kit...our calipers are pretty huge as is... i'd upgrade the pads and get some braided lines before anything else. I guarantee you'll be amazed at how much a braided line will affect your braking. Also upgrading your fluid will help reduce fade under hard braking....
I'd probably start with Intake/exhaust. Unless you really spend alot of time behind the wheel, in which case a good stereo might be a quality first upgrade.

I like the pads/braided lines idea but I wouldn't upgrade to CAI and exhaust unless you are going to get rid of the cats. Put that money towards the SC...CAI and exhaust (with the cats in place) will cost you about $1500+
(TRD) and gain about 10-15 hp...which is about 3-4% where as a SC is $6000 and you get 120+ hp or 31% increase(plus that badass whine!) If you really want dual exhaust, have a muffler shop install them from the cats back and get some TRD slip on tips...who's gonna know and it'll cost like $200 total. Again, my opinion but if ya do decide to go with the CAI and exhaust, we WILL want pics! ![]() |

The main reason I was thinking of sticking with TRD is because it will be convered under my warranty. My dealership offered when I bought the truck to upgrade the warranty from 7 year 100,00 Power Train only to 7 year 100,000 bumper to bumper ((and for only an extra 1.5k)) so i jumped on that. Its a nice thought to think any mods if i doing them through trd and dealer install will also be covered, but if other brands are cheaper and give the same ((or better!)) gains, i might pick those up instead. i just dont know what to look at besides TRD, or what has better performance/price.

mods such as intake and exhaust can not void any part of your warranty no matter who makes them.
Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia mod your truck and enjoy! Now things like superchargers CAN void warranty...

1. Brakes on these trucks are already awesome! Drive a Chev or a F
rd and ull understand. Upgrade the pads to HAWK and it'll be worth it, but I've done the braided lines, and unless ur doing road-cross, or racing or doing the big brake upgrade I wund't bother.2. the best advice for someone considering mods - anything that bolts on is great as long as u can DO IT URSELF! Horsepower really is addictive, and it really is true that u never have enuf. I started by Chev with a CAI and cat-back... 3. None of this stuff will void ur warranty unless THEY prove the prob was due to the part. Now I wud sonner have the dealer do it tho, as then the bumper-t-bumper will cover any parts they install as well. Downside is that there are VERY FEW dealers who are capable of more than changing oil - and they fuck that up often too! R/
