Dude...don't waste ur $...doesn't make any diff to performance. Suffice that Yota didn't spend gobs of $ to put that strange design without exploring all options. Oil on the MAF is only when YOU over oil the filter, and it can be cleaned anyway. Unless ur gonna go FI or do a ram air hood or bumper trumpet, there's little reason to do anything but go to a good aftermarket filter that will improve the flow of the stock kit. 10-20hp improvements are just plain bullshit...take the money and buy LT headers or hi-flo cats & cat back - thats worth it!
Lastly...there are some who contend that these after-market's with metal (steel, Alum...etc) intake heat up and thus transfer that heat to the air charge - and thats why all the typical stock units are plastic or fibreglass. I dunno how much diff that makes on a stock set-up, but if u go FI IAT's are one of the biggest factors in avoiding KR and making more power as u turn up the boost.

We all understand that CAIs are not going to get us 20hp. They do add a little power maybe 5hp or so but you get a lot better throttle response. They are also a far better improvement over the stock panel type filter. You are correct about the chrome and metal CAI units....they may actually lose power compared to stock because of the heat they retain. You should only use the plastic style CAIs

I have the Airaid and I love it! It makes the engine sing and I've seen a 2.2mpg difference after 1 tank full. That's even with me getting on it a bit more. The throttle response has woken this engine up. I'd also say that the fuel savings may come from the TBS as well.

Call it what you may dh but mine improved over 2 mpg. I never got 24.7 mpg at 55 mph for 300 miles before the AFE install.

Also engineers did come up with the TRD CAI even if they didn't throw a bundle into it. They already had the box and intake tube. All they needed was the filter.

Well...for 2.2mpg I'll buy one too! I remian doubtful tho...if others get similar improvements I might give it a try....I only have 500 miles on mine so far, but I'm only at 12.4mpg (thats driving 75mph for 150 miles, then 60ish mph for 90 miles up to my shack), so that wud be a 15% increase . I won't tell u I wasn't shocked seeing as I was getting 10.4mpg with my Avvalanche with a bigger motor and SC. Still lots cheaper tho seeing as I only have to put reg in it!

i hear that the cai's hurt the ecu. the computer doesnt know what to do with all the air. i have one and some days have power in this area and some times in another. my friend owns a ford with a cai and exhaust and has the same experience i have had. I have heard from two people in the motor department that they aren't the best mod out their. i also saw no mileage increase with mine. I have an afe stage 2 and magnaflow exhaust. Unichip is shipping me a tuner and they said between the exhaust and intake, the intake is what they have to map their programmer for. However i had a dodge with exhaust and programmer and saw a mileage and power increase. Back to my friend with the ford, he has a programmer, intake, and exhaust. He gets horrible gas mileage. My sources come from a former engine developer for ford and unichip, along with my personal experience for dodge. Tip might want to get an aftermarket mass airflow sensor , i hear it can do the trick with the intake
