additional afe intake mod (RAM air)

hey guys. so i think i have an idea here. I came accross the post talking about modifying the stock inlet to fit the afe intake perfectly. good job. However, the afe is still sucking in hot air from the hole in the fron i believe. feel free to correct me if im wrong. i came up with this idea since theres not really any room for a RAM system on our stock box. Wouldn't it be possible to cut out the back of the fog light covers (sorry sr5 models) run a hose up inside the fend, cut a hole in the metal for the hose and make some type of connection onto the additional inlet of the afe. I think u would have to cut a hole, as there really isnt any other holes. Theres a bunch of guys trying to experiment like this so I dont want to take any credit, just trying to help. Any opinions guys?

I was thinking that too, but I don't know what to use for material. I wonder if places sell straight pieces of intake pipe that you can heat up and bend to your liking. If they do, I might be experimenting too!

4in PVC piping would work for that, would it not?

just buy some intercooler piping

they come with enough piping and hoses .. should be able to have it end up facing any way you want.

No, but you can buy 90's and 45's and put it together using that.

If you read the review in the link , you'll see why there is an opening in the front of the intake box .

aFe Air Intake Toyota Tundra Review with Video Sound Clips | tundraheadquarters.com

Just like a ram air intake will be most helpful at higher speeds , when your doing 50 mph or more the air is cooler than at city speeds .

I know small diameter PVC can be bent with heat. I've done it with grey conduit many times. I imagine large diameter PVC can be bent too, but it will be a lot harder. Just be sure to do it outdoors because when you heat up PVC hot enough to bend it, it can release toxic fumes. If it starts turning black, then it's a little too hot.

thanks

I know that the afe has the extra hole in it because the stock inlet isn't big enough. my point is just that wouldn't the performance be better if it was able to suck in completely cold air, as opposed to half of each. Wouldn't pool hose work to run from the box to the fog light cover, just gotta attach it to the box. thanks guys. anyone else

Their logic on that is when the intake is sucking that much air in, your vehicle's in motion so cool air is coming in through the grill already.

I understand your point , but my question is how much colder is the air being drawn thru a hose at say 55 mph versus thru the opening in front of the box ?
At lower speeds I agree that it would be better , and you could make it work .
But I would want a smooth wall tubing going all the way to the intake .Is'nt pool hose kinda like dryer hose the way it's made ?
T.S.C or Farm & Fleet sells a 4" suction hose that would work perfectly I think for this application .If I did'nt have the fog lights I would mock it up and try it , but try to find an agriculture supply place for some hoses .
Here is a link to what I'm talking about Suction Hose - Capital Rubber Corporation

yeah

thanks guys. I was just thinking about the pool hose since thats what they used on the RAPS kit that I had on my 01 tundra. I definately agree with u guys about the high speed and air coming in. I'm more interested in the low end performance, as most of the time im driving in town, stop and go. U think there would be room for a 4 inch hose in there. I dont know about with the afe, but with the stock box, theres not much room in there. U think id be better off just going with an afe dry drop in and making a second inlet?
