How hard would it be to modify the stock airbox to become a "CAI". Every car I've owned the most common "homemade" mod is CAI, yet no one seems to have figured out howto do this for our trucks. Guess I know where I'll be spending my weekend
The differance I see is the intake tube is smooth on the inside on a after market CAI, not ribbed. This smooth surface would allow better air flow.

Yeah , after I mounted the box , my wife asked me what that was . I felt like a fool , but removed and re-installed the box . Now it's all good . The directions don't even show or mention that part .

Yup. And without that part, the box wiggles around a lot. I actually thought they maybe sent me the wrong intake being that it didn't sit in there nice and snug. I sent an email to AFE about their instructions sucking major ass. No reply.

I think that I'm going to try and use the o.e.m piece that goes thru the fenderwell . Gonna see if I can attach it to the aFe .
I'll post a few pics if I get it to work .

There should have been a screw extension for the front tab that holds the engine cover down. The extension raises the tab so that the engine cover will sit a little higher in the front and clear the tube.

It makes the cover tilt up a little, but you don't really notice it unless you look hard at it.

Where do you get that extension?? My AFE makes my cover sit a little crooked too. Hardly noticable but it's not a perfect fit.
