Swapping TRD suspension for???...........

Hey Guys,

Not sure if this is the right forum but.......... I am interested in finding the "right" shock to replace the TRD system. I hope it's not just me but, I'm tired of riding the bronco of the TRD system. What I'm asking is, for those that have felt as I do, what did you replace your Bilstien's with? and were you happy with that choice?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

P.S. Great place to get ideas and share mods guys, keep up the great work!!!

TRD Suspension

I would compare it to something extremely stiff, while on the phone, I've been asked "what the hell are you doing?" when you get asked questions like that due to waffeling in your voice due to a stiff suspension, it's time to find something softer!! Buddy's tell me "it's sure a good thing it drives better than it rides" so........ the Bilstien shocks are, in my opinion, just too responsive to minor road bumps, on larger potholes and concrete height differances in the road, it is not near as noticeable, just the small stuff??

I'm contacting Edelbrock to see if they'll setup the new Tundra with Performer IAS shocks. I ran Bilstien's on my Ram for awhile and had the same choppy ride as my Tundra. I replaced them with Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks and the ride was like night and day. Great ride and great handling. Best of both worlds, although I wouldn't recommend the Performer series for off-road duty.

Don't take this the wrong way but why did you spend the money on the TRD model if you don't like the ride?

TRD Suspension

Unlike most, I wasn't fortunate enough to buy my truck new, I had to settle for something used, the test drive didn't make me aware that the suspension was as choppy as it seems now. There are a lot of things I would've done differently second time around, as they say "hindsight is 20/20".

Hey Scott don't take our comments the wrong way bro you got yourself one sweet Tundra that's for sure! It's a simple and inexpensive fix just do a little research on the new struts (shocks) and if you are mechanically inclined you can save on labor and install em yourself! You can even start a new thread inquiring what to change out the TRD shocks with. What ever you decide you can depend on this site for all the help you will need.

So the morale of the story is to stay away from the TRD if you plan on mostly street/highway driving?

Depends on how smooth your local roads might be. Around here, the TRD is brutal on our potholed streets. Not too bad on the highway, but we chose to skip the TRD option on our Tundras.

Personally, the shocks are secondary to having your truck say TuRD on the side.

It's all in good fun!
