Hmmm. I'm just going to have to crawl under there and measure. Nobody makes a 2 1/8" muffler, from I've seen they are all 2 1/2" inlet sizes (Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Aero, etc).

Flowmaster makes a 2" inlet and 2.25" inlet. I'm sure there are other manufacturers that make them as well.

I am certain that mine was 2.5" through the cats, then was reduced to 2.25" between the cats and muffler. Then it was a single 2.75" exit out of the muffler.

It sounds like you are wanting to keep the loud sound but deaden the noise to an engine sound correct? You might give SpinTech mufflers a look. They have some OUTSTANDING sound if you want to be able to hear the truck yet it deadens the sound to an exhaust tone. I personally have no experience with the dynomax but figured I would give ya some options.
Spin Tech Mufflers I have ran the Pro-Street series and all I can say is WOW!! If you want a little more quiet the Sportsman Street XL might catch your eye. Again, just throwing out options. Brett

I just checked out the Spintech site. I've heard good things about them, but I can't find a dual in/single out muffler. I really don't want to put a y-pipe on my truck.
My idea was this, run (2) 14" Dynomax Bullet mufflers (one on each pipe from the cats-back) so I maintain the true dual setup. I was going to dump the tips underneath the truck, probably right underneath the cab. I know it will be loud, but less exhaust pipe = more efficiency. I can't think of a more efficient setup than maintaining the dual exhaust and reducing the length of the system, while using a high flow muffler.

Have you thought about running 2 of these? Straight thru, lifetime warranty, about $105/ea at Summit or Jegs.

I just had a Flo~Pro muffler installed and it souds good . model # FP744 CENTER/DUAL-3" IN/2.25" OUT

The pipes jump back to 2.35" just before entering the muffler.... that happens to be the same size that a slip to fit 2.25" muffler inlet will have. Two 6" peices of 2.25" pipe would bring it together well - you'll be able to keep the stock hangers in front of the muffler.
More info on the stock system.... The stock system is well designed for what it is. Toyota took care to slowly step down the tube size throughout the system to help keep the velocity up and probably reduce noise some. It runs tight off the header, maybe 2.12"? Then jumps to 2.50" to the first converter, then drops to 2.40" out of there, keeps that diameter though the second converter all the way to flanges where the rear exhaust bolts on (just aft the transfer case). The exhaust then drops to 2.12 into the muffler, then 2.75 out to the tailpipe. A better example may be tube ID area in sq in. 3.14" x 2 = 6.28" 4.45" x 2 = 8.9" 4.08" x 2 = 8.16" 3.14" x 2 = 6.28" muffler not free flow, exhaust must pass through perforations tailpipe = 5.43" |
