I'm wondering what you opinion is on the TRD CAI vs. K&N intakes. I'm not looking for a huge horsepower change just an increase in gas mileage.

We installed the TRD intake on my wife's '07 Tundra about 30k miles ago (truck currently has almost 70k on the clock). No difference in mileage after the installation and we keep track of every fill-up. Throttle response seems a little crisper, but that's the only benefit we've noticed. Personally, I don't think it was worth the price, IMO.

We bought the intake in hopes that it would improve the fuel mileage. But once she hit 20k miles, the average mileage has remained constant 18.0 - 18.5mpg. Most of the miles are on the highway around 70mph or so.
She drives ~1500 to ~2000 miles a week for work, but the Tundra isn't her primary vehicle. Her car and bike have almost 500k between them. On the other side of the coin, I work at home and rarely put more than 8k miles a year on my trucks. My bikes get much more use. And we'd be far from the first to reach 100k. At least two of her co-workers have well over 100k on their 2nd Gen Tundras (one 4.7 and one 5.7). |
