I'd say yes in stop and go traffic or slow speeds because it gives the metal a chance to heat up. Once your moving however it cools back down fairly quickly.I've had both metal and polymer (plastic). I had a zx2 s/r that had an iceman intake and I have the K&N 77 series now and I prefer the metal pipe. People say that the plastic will insulate better which is true but once it heats up it also holds the heat better. The iceman I had would heat up as hot as the metal valve cover and stay that way for a while the K&N heats up while idling and sitting in traffic and cools in minutes plastic is not always the colder choice.

I took mine off, i hated the whistling sound! And i figured it's kinda pointless without an exhaust, and i haven't deceided yet on what i am going to do for exhaust. I want to build a shroud. They said that "it sucks so much air a cold air setup would be too restrictive without cutting the fender well (I don't want to)" ....I don't think they get the theory of "thermal efficiency!" like not putting an intercooler on a turbo, yes the metal gets HOT too.

It feels good when you drive away with a cold engine bay or cold day, but on a hot day i think it was LESS power than stock. And now you punch it and it's making all this noise and your going nowhere! Pissed me off a few times. I might just put the drop in true flow like my 2000 and remove the charcoal and call it good with an exhaust.

What are you talking about? Yea so maybe the thread got off topic a bit but if you go back and read it a few members have the intake and have experienced 1 to 2 mpg increase. As far as the dyno I don't think anyone wants to pay the money to get it done just so someone else that might not even get the intake can have the information. I believe 808 toyrunda started this thread so what are you talking about Why I posted my thread? Stop throwing a fit.

What am I talkin about? What are you talkin about? Not once in this whole thread did anyone mention anything about MPG or even reflected on horsepower from the True Flow.. Mostly, people were talkin about the noise it makes, thats it. Then I remembered seeing someone talking about hand calculated MPG tests or updates on results from driving with it on. That was like a month ago and they hadn't posted anything since. So I started up a thread about it and then you come onto my thread and make a condescending comment about using the search feature...

As for me i didn't get a good hwy mileage avg with the new tires before i put on the XDi. So I can't say for sure what the increase was...if any. I did one hwy trip with it on that I clocked doing 65-75, so say about 70 avg, and I got 18.5, but that is what I got before the tires. So there might be a 1mpg gain there??? (4x4). As far as around town and a general avg, it always fluctuated between 13-15. I would say there was no real noticeable change. I haven't clocked a hwy trip since with the stock box in yet again. might be a bit, but i will post when i do. Remember i don't have an exhaust yet so I might not be the best test subject.

Well $hit. I put it back on, after getting 10 MPG around town! Remember I put it on about the same time as the new tires. One thing though, the computer didn't get used to it only 2 tanks (2nd tank hwy, 14 mpg). But I dont care I never got 10. So I built a foam shield around it that really helps with mellowing down the sound too. And I made sure all the silicon to metal fitment was perfect and now the weezing is 50% better. I probably had an air leak like I suspected. So now I am going to CO for the week and we'll see what kind of number turn up. I will post then.
