I can tell you from experience and dolan can back me up, the gains arent much, me and dolan ran I have a ghetto rigged cone filter no box and he has a volant, mind you im in a crew max also and our runs were identical so go with what you can afford. Just my two cents.

I had a CV K&N cone filter on a very highly modified L-6 TJ Jeep.It was a blueprinted,balanced,4.7 Hesco stroker moter, had all the good stuff inside and would crank 7k on the Autometer. That thing weighed 4500 LBS and it would keep up with all my buddy's rock buggies with their 350s and light weight bodies.I pulled a lot more of them out of the mud then they strapped on me.

Got the Volant installed today. It came in yesterday.
I got the sensor installed right after doing it wrong the first time but after I start up my truck the "MAINT REQUIRED" light keeps blinking for a good 15 seconds and then stops. Attached a pic of how the sensor should be in there correctly. |

i did when i first installed mine.....torque didnt seem to kick until about 4000 rpm's...then it felt like a turbo when it did.....i think when an ecu upgrade finally comes out, it will make the corrections for more incoming air...esp if u have exhaust /headers

New here and a new Tundra owner, but not new to cars/trucks/bikes....but just to let you all know, I just got my Volant CAI and I got it for $263.25 shipped from this guy on ebay...
wwwgautopartscom It looks good, not damaged but does have the aluminum and not the (I think faux) carbon fiber top. I'll be installing it this weekend...I'll take pics for everyone if there's interest. ADD....this was for a 4.7 V8 not th 5.7 Last edited by seattleducati : 05-01-2008 at 06:42 PM. |

You noticed a drop in torque?! I could understand that from an exhaust with a backpressure loss but an intake? That stinks!!
Also if you are considering the K&N vs. volant I have read a lot of posts lately how the K&N with the oil filter has damaged the MAF sensor and they had to be replaced because of that. Now I am not saying that is going to happen, but it HAS happened with a few trucks. Thats the reason I am going to go with the AFE stage 2 with the Pro-Dry S filter.

Volant CAI install
I installed mine 2 weeks ago and love the sound and the throttle response time is a little better. I've also noticed .4 mpg improvement in the city but still haven't tested for highway miles. As far as install a few tips, first thing to do is to remove the good looking cover in which houses the filter, it will take a beer drinking buddy to help push the filter housing over the hole in which the mounting bolt goes, and aligning the hole is a challenge for 1 person, Next tip MAKE SURE that the sensor that you removed from your stock air filter is oriented exactly how the stock one was. Other than that it should take aboutr 20 minutes and your set, I love mine and now I'm looking at exhaust, probably not Volant because they are a little pricey but I'm looking for a good cat back system that sounds good but not annoyingly loud, so if you know of any please reply, Thanks Nick

Volant CAI
I installed a Volant a couple of weeks ago. I also think that the throttle response is a little better. And I also installed a Pro Force exhaust. The sound is mellow but not loud and no drone that I have found. And a number of people have noticed the exhaust and have told me that they look cool. Or as one guy shouted out (and I think he was talking about the truck and not my wife) - "Nice tips".
