K&N CAI vs. rain/wet weather vs. other cai

Hello everyone,
I am thinking of putting a K&N cai on my 2008 5.7 tundra, but now that I've seen some of the other cai on the market, I'm having reservations...
I had a K&N 77 on my Chevy, and I loved it, except when it rained. When the weather was dry, I noticed better gas mileage and much quicker throttle response. But when it rained, it seemed to get worse mileage and no improvement in throttle response.
Has anyone noticed this on the K&N, or was it my imagination? How about on Volant or other CAI kits?

I never had a K&N, but I noticed a BIG performance drop in the rain with an AEM on my last truck...you might get it with all of them.
I'm still getting one for my Tundra though, just 'cause I like the sound.

It rained for 2 days here in georgia and i didnt have ANY problems with my k&n the filter has no way of getting water in it, the lag your experincing is probably the water drag on the tires and not the filter

thats why im going with the volant. no worries about any water induction, unless going through a lake, where the stock would ingest any water or be overly exposed to water.

Why pay all that much more for the Voilant and not get anything more than the K&N will give you.

dont have to oil the filter or clean it out as often, only around 75 more when you look around and ebay, uses all factory mounting locations. Also in my opinion the volant looks alot better. Just me though.

A local truck/off road store in tampa said they dont recomend and discourage there customers from getting k&n's. With the amount of rain we get there even in the non-rainy season Im not risking any part of my motor to save a few dollars.

Well im from Ocala fl. and we get just as much rain there. That 4x4 store is trying to make more money selling a more expensive product, with the k&n filter the wheel well, the heat shield and the hood of the truck stop ALL water from getting into the the filter. And like we all know oil and water dont mix right. You have to be carful listing to shops like that there not looking out for your best intrest

You don't need all that. he's pulling your leg along with your wallet in hand. I have an AFE along with Borla XS Duals. I went through a rainstorm last weekend driving over 200 miles and no difference here. From Jax down to Melbourne.

Im not worried about that guy, he is entilted to his opinion, if he wants to spend more money then let him. I got a K&N on ebay for $239 and thats the cheapest i have found anywhere and k&n offers a 1,000,000,000 mile warrenty thats speaks wonders to me. I hooked my k&n up with a 20" magnaflow dual exaust and it's freekin sweet
