Not quite,HEHEH,my GReddy type S on my 98 TC HRC Neon sounded like you done run over a 400 pound house cats tail when you got off the fast pedal at 25 psi.Couldn,t even hear the K&N intake over the noise of the turbo spool and the 5" SS Modern Automotive exhaust.

That whistle sound you hear maybe swirl, as my Jeep made that noise when I got on the gas,but then again it had a air flow swirl built into the TBS???????

My TRD CAI wont whistle. And I hear there are spacers or something if you dont care to cut you engine cover that will raise it. Which was no big deal for me.

I have the K&N 77. mine whistles only on a slight acceleration, like when you are trying to stay at a constant speed. no sound when I am coasting. Growls when I get on it. Not a major problem, but annoying when you have the cruise set.

I installed a K&N 77 CAI this morning, and just got back from a short (about 20 mile) test drive.
NO WHISTLES, at any throttle settings. I had one of these on my last truck, and it never whistled then either.
Power feels incredible. I did a back to back test(not immediately back to back due to install time--anybody else find the K&N instructions a pain in the butt? Some of the brackets COULD NOT be installed in the order they instructed, but were easy to install in a different order!) The K&N would get the tires spinning if I punched it from speeds up to 40 mph, where stock it would only spin the tires from stopped to about 15 mph!!!

Thumbs up

just installed mine this afternoon too. no whistling on mine either...just some typical breathing sounds when I get on it. I totally dig it so far. I actually thought they did a pretty good job with the instructions too...although, I can't recall if I went step by step or not. I usually only use those things for a guide anyway

oh! I also got K&N's dry charger cover for their filter to protect it from any moisture that may make it's way to the filter. i dig it so far too!

K&N update: After 1 tank of gas, I am getting much better gas mileage......about 10% better, and that includes a little more heavy footed throttle to "hear" the K&N growl.
