Installing AFE CAI this weekend, any tips?

The instructions seem a little "bland". Just wondering if they left anything out that I should know. Or should I just let the dudes who are installing my Borla catback next week install my CAI for me? Thanks in advance.

should just be a take a few bolts out and pull the stock off then make sure nothing gets inside the open hole/port or whatever directly on the motor, and then put the new one on.

I know I will put mine on and my exhaust. I just couldn't wait with either I know.

Put mine on in about an hour, easy to figure out even thought the instructions are a little vague. Unless your guy is going to install it for free I recommend you do it yourself.
If I was out there I would do it for you for free.
I will be moving out to Edwards AFB, CA in April of this year.

I hope that aFe has improved their instructions in the past 6 months or so.
I got one of the first 3 made and the instructions were for a generic intake. The pictures didn't match what I had, the list of tools needed was way off(took far fewer tools).
The instructions also failed to mention the piece that goes on the flange that attachés the box to the wheel well hole.Without that piece installed the box will not be stable and will rattle.

Here's the instructions that came with the Intake. Do they look updated? They don't mention anything about the wheel well.

Look at the pics I took. Especially the pic to the left of the box. Also use your washers and bolts from your original box. It makes for a better fit. The hardest part to come off was the sensor with the two small phillips screws.

Having some issues. On top of being pretty hung over, it's hot and Im not in the mood to mess with it any longer. Okay, here's what happend. I removed the stock intake, fairly simple. I attached the filter adapter to the houseing and that's as far as I got. When I tried installing the housing, it just didn't sit right. Even after tightening the two screws, it would teeter totter very easily. I doubt its supposed to do that. the bottom of the AFE housing is flat as opposed to the stock housing that has all the grooves in it so that it sits perfectly. Am I supposed to take any parts off the stock housing? I managed to get off that part that goes into the wheel well but couldn't find a way to fit it onto the new housing. From what everyone says, this is supposed to be an easy install and it's just not turning out that way. I"ll give it another go tomorrow but I dont see how that box is gonna sit in there nicely. Am I supposed to use the two screws that came off the stock intake? The screws are in this metal cilinder then that cilinder is in the rubber boots.

Any advice would be great! I really don't wanna bother Miguel (RMJ) by calling him. I"m starting to wonder if there's a difference between the 08 and 07 intake housing.

My advice would be drink a beer, a install goes much better if you have a mood improver. I can't help much I bought and installed the competitor, I am sure once you get it all setup it will be worth it.
Good luck.
Post some pics when your done.

I think I know what I have to do now. I think the piece that goes into the wheel well is supposed to kindda stablize the whole housing. I saw that Mickey did that in one of his gallery pics after he suggested I check them out. The area where the box sits is almost round with bumps and groves. The AFE housing is flat so I just dont see how it's going to stay in one place. I'm still hung over and it's damn near 4pm. So no beers for me today!

If you use the bolts given with the AFE to hold down the box you will need spacers or washers to take up space so it gets tight to hold it down. The bolt is too long. My problem was where that rubber gasket went on the left of the box. The instructions were vague and that's why I told you look at the pic. I tried putting it on both ways and found out the last way was the best snug fit. Also instructions don't show you how to put on that cylinder piece on the right side of the box. Well as you know I put it on wrong realize it when it came to put on the clamps. It goes on the inside. Now when you connect it all together the top plastic grey piece with the Toyota symbol fits very tight. Work with it to you get it on. This is why it took me so long to put it on. But once you're done enjoy.

Thanks Mickey. I'll give it another shot Sunday morning. So you did have to take a piece off of the stock housing right? The piece that goes into the wheel well hole?

You are right in that the part that attach's the box to the wheel well does stabilize the box, I mentioned it in my post above.
I also put foam weather stripping on the wheel well where the box sits, this made the box completely stable.
