Drive smooth and moderately for good mileage.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on the truck. Personally I have and AFE and Borla XRS duals. I get 22.5mpg at 60. One trip to Savannah I got 24.7 at 55mph. Yes I get less than that at times because of the foot action. But it's fun to listen too.

Just took a trip last night from Jax to Orlando to go to Al Capones Dinner and show. Round trip was 395 miles. Did mostly 80mph, my avg speed was 73 for the trip and my mpg was 18.3 with A/C on. For a Big block this is great.

The mods I have added on previous trucks that will gain about 4 MPG increase through their collective use are: headers, CAI, CAT-Back, under drive pulleys, and electrical fan. No single mod give much noticable gain in mileage but collectively the afforementioned yield 4-5 MPG increase on my 98 F150. I got about 3 MPG improvement on my 96 T100 with an electric fan, light weight crank pulley, CAI, headers and straight through muffler since I could not find a CAT-Back for it. The CAI, headers, and CAT-Back helps with air flow, while the under drive pulley and electrical fan help to reduce the drag from belt driven engine components. As with increase MPG, collectively, these mod work to produce the best HP gains in a non-aspired engine vs. using only one stand alone mod. Hope this helps.

I think what I have got from this tread is that when your truck is brand new, the millage is crappy. That would explain my 16mpg 900 mile trip yesterday. I have just an exhaust system so far. I think I just hit 1500 miles or so on my 2 wheel drive truck. I know I need to ease into the throttle more off the line, but the sound and power is soooo nice!!! lol I hope after this month, when I make the 900 mile trip back, I see a better mpg.

I hope not for a while bro, but the track I am on I might see it sooner than I think. Its so easy and comfortable to drive. The gas prices make make the call for me, but other than that, I love it.

I agree with Polcat, I have a 2007 2wd 5.7 DC with 2200 miles and I just got back from a road trip to charlotte, nc (350 miles round trip) and I averaged 17.4 MPG at 75MPH. This was my first freeway road trip in the truck and I have to say that I, and my coworkers, were very pleased with the truck's performance, comfort and MPG. I do hope that it will get better as I rack up some mileage and perhaps some mods in the near future!

With wheels and tires bigger normaly drops mpg. But that said getting smaller wont help either. Has to do alot with weight, wheel weight and tire weight. Getting the X-sp package may help a little because its a thinnner lower profile tire mainly for street compared to the Michelin/ BF Goodrich tires on the other models that are a heavier tire for all terrain.

The 5.7 gets a hair better mileage but you gota act like there is an egg on the gas pedal and smoothly roll into the throttle. I have driven around town before and been amazed how little fuel I have used and I was conciously driving fuel conservatilvely but still keeping up with traffic and all. Then ran it out open out of a few lights and a few speedy passes and such and ha the needle will respond accordingly.

In my truck when I drive from my house in Tampa to college in Boca, its far south-east and around a 3 1/2 hour drive all at highway speed, I average 75-80 and get 19-20 mpg. You can notice a difference when you push the speed up only to around 85-90 your mileage does decrease a good amount.
You are correct the 4x4 is not full time 4wd but the front 4x axels and (4)CV joints do turn all the time and this causes resistance and thats not good for gas mileage. When you press the 4x button the axels engage with the front differential, then you are in 4wd.

Don't forget to make sure that your tires are properly inflated! haha...
Also, larger tires WILL make your MPG go down.. The wheels are the last place you want to add weight to ANY vehicle.
Also, a lift will make your MPG go down too.
Not saying not to do it, but those things WILL make your mileage go down.

My tires were soooo under inflated from the dealership. When I checked them they were right at the manuf. specs listed on the door, but they not only looked low, but they were near 20psi off from what the tire recommended. That made me a little mad. I could already see the wear on the tires after a few hundred miles. I put the psi to the tire specs and have been good ever since.

Hey chix...Like the ford, but you wont be disapointed in the Tundra. Hope to see it soon!

TP

Definitely the cheapest way to save/increase MPG's is tire inflation. I check mine every other time I fill up.
